Track in day in lab 1602! Jumped right into our new unit of Layers of the Earth. Started with a little pre assessment visual of current understanding of what’s inside Earth. Great starting points and conversations to get us rolling! #owlscience2024

In lab 1602, finishing our sound unit with building an instrument from random stuff. 3 requirements: make sound, change pitch, and change amplitude. Most students finished building and started creating their video proof. Will finish tomorrow! #owlscience2024

In lab 1602, we started various sound stations. Spoon bells (personal favorite) to rulers to rubber bands to tuning forks to straws. Throw in hallway slinkies & Chrome Music Lab. The goal is to apply sound in as many situations as possible, continue tomorrow! #owlscience2024

In lab 1602, had a great lunch group yesterday and today. We broke out the Giant UNO cards! Great time, but they are not easy to hold. Got the win yesterday, but was defeated today. Until next time… #owlscience2024

In lab 1602, students completed an 8 question activity. Each question they had time set to answer on their own, then time to share and reflect with their group. 7 question follow-up activity tomorrow. Learning to dig, dig deep, then dig deeper with content. #owlscience2024

In lab 1602, we completed 4 different wave labs that focused on different wave movements, waves transferring energy not matter, and hearing how different vibrations make different pitch sounds. Application of all that vocabulary from last week! #owlscience2024

In lab 1602 yesterday, we finished our properties of matter unit with investigating a gummy bear. Great way to apply our different skills covered over the past couple weeks. Even though it’s delicious, application of content can be hard! #owlscience2024

In lab 1602, we started learning about properties of matter. First on the list, mass and volume. Students started with measuring mass and volume of regular cubes and irregular rocks. Volume can be tricky with water displacement. So much math this week! #owlscience2024

In lab 1602, no internet means no problems! Break out the magnifying glasses and shaving cream. Simple science tools bring joy, but the real question is… Is shaving cream a solid, liquid, or gas? We will figure it out tomorrow! #owlscience2024

In lab 1602, we finished our remaining two stations on states of matter. One particular station: prove air is matter using a bag, straw, and a scale. Some found success, others might have found some obstacles. Looking forward to our debrief on Monday! #owlscience2024

In lab 1602, built different ways to show how our key vocabulary is connected. Then moved into trying out a new online resource, Legends of Learning. Not everyday you hear: “Hey Shiny Egg! I’m Enchanted Bird!” and have it be on topic in class. #owlscience2024

In Lab 1602, we started the day discussing whether or not our check-in yesterday was a fair assessment (great conversations by the way). Moved into Matter day 1 of many, started with flipped notes on atom, molecule, element, particle and a man named John Dalton! #owlscience2024

In Lab 1602 today, we tried doing a replicable experiment testing which dish soap will make the biggest bubble. We made predications, tested each soap (some way better than others), measured, and documented our data. Tomorrow is data analysis and conclusions. #owlscience2024

In Lab 1602, some house keeping discussions about how notes are structured. Then it was time to play with eye droppers in preparation for our Bubble Lab tomorrow. How many drops can you put on a penny? 10-62? Simple tools = good times! #owlscience2024
