New mineral alert! My first new mineral, wildcatite, is officially published - a calcium iron tellurate hydroxide, CaFeTeO5(OH). It is named for the small gold prospect in which it was found, Wildcat prospect in Utah, USA, which I visited in 2018.

#OreCup R2M2: It's slippery and silvery #Molybdenite vs peacock rock #Bornite! Are you supporting the only molybdenum (and rhenium) ore, or the hefty copper sulphide?

Not copper metal like in #OreCup today, but (poorly managed) copper mining in general can leave to blue-green precipitates along waterways - and play host to some amazing Cu-tolerant plants!
#OreCup R2M1: Are you supporting tendrils of native #Copper or dark grains of #Ilmenite?

Here's me getting my PhD with my supervisors - Bernard Hoskins and newly minted #NobelPrize Laureate Richard Robson. So thrilled for Richard, and thinking also of Bernard tonight (who passed away many years ago but was a crucial part of the story). #ozchem#ChemTwitter
We have our #MinCup25 champion!!
Congratulations, #Kyanite!

After eight years of competing, another few hours to verify votes was nothing, right?
Amazing first run, #Tugtupite, and better luck next year.

Voting for tugtupite today!
too many perovskite votes aren't for the mineral but for the eponymous group of structures.
Tugtupite is also a beryllium containing mineral, and I do love a mineralogical oddity!
#MinCup25 Quarterfinal 2: It's #perovskite and its intriguing structure against #tugtupite's collection of optical tricks for this quarterfinal match!
