"When our genes were unable to store all the information necessary for our survival, we slowly invented the needed genes.
But then there came a time, perhaps ten thousand years ago, when there arose a need to know more than it was convenient for our brains to hold. And so we learned to store vast quantities of information outside our bodies.
We are the only species on the planet, at least as far as we know, that has invented a communal memory that is stored neither in our genes nor in our brains. The place where this memory is kept is called a library.
A book is made from a tree. You give it a single glance, and you hear the voice of a person who may have been dead for a thousand years. Across millennia, the author speaks, quietly and clearly, directly into your head, personally to you.
Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, for it binds together people who are citizens of different epochs and who have never known one another.
Books break the shackles of time; they are proof that humanity is capable of magic."

@RealEmirHan James Bond's first outing in Dr. No was released in 1962, where he was meant to be in his mid 30s.
He has appeared as seven entirely different people since then and should now be in his 90s.
But the fact that he was blown up in the last movie is the continuity issue.
My most popular cartoon by a long chalk is also oddly niche, in that it mostly appeals to a generation who remember the song it refers to and enjoy the nostalgia for their youth. I can draw one for you if you like.

The FOMO was too much to bear. I blasted up Ben Cleuch tonight to get the sunset, hoping Iโd emerge from the gloom. The good news is that I did, and my goodness was it worth it.
@Fyrishsunset@NeilDrysdale You think Scotland is on its knees because of the Scot Gov or SNP wanting Independence? Not 14 years of Tory austerity or Brexit or COVID? Interesting take.
#TilesOnTuesday: Spotted this beautiful Hyndland โSuper-Wallyโ close while passing last week. It is probably by architect John Campbell McKellar who specialised in tenements designing no less than 640 of them. The bold choice of colours, stripes and patterns is most memorable ๐ฅฐ!
#MomentsOfBeauty in #Glasgow: Last monthโs sunshine made the articulation and depth of the shadows on Thomson & Sandilandsโ warm red sandstone Parish Halls on George Street catch my eye. Itโs a powerful รcole des Beaux-Arts design but one best appreciated in perspective ๐๐๐ฅฐ!
#UpOnTheRoof so grabbed a #BrutalGlasgow shot of Anniesland Court, the โAโ listed 1960s tower block by architects Jack Holmes & Partners which dominates Great Western Road and Anniesland Cross in #Glasgow. Anyone care to guess which well known building Iโm hanging out onโฆ๐ค๐คทโโ๏ธ?
