'One uses a language which helps one to preserve one's life, which helps to make one feel at peace with the world, and which screens out the greatest amount of chaos.' - Ralph Ellison, quoted in A.D. Foote's 1987 Zamenhof Day address, Kinross.

Many thanks to @duendejeams for this brilliant talk he recently gave about A.D. Foote, the Esperanto writer from Dundee. #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek https://t.co/hfdlnZC62w
This is a mural on the wall in Liff Psychiatric Hospital where Foote spent 5 years as a patient during the 1960s. From that hospital, Foote corresponded with Esperantists all around the world, and had creative freedom over the hospital's magazine.

A talk (in English) by PhD researcher @duendejeams about two intriguing 20th century Esperanto authors from Scotland, followed by a Q&A discussion.
Shameful krokodilo here, but have long admired the Dundee poet A.D. Foote - who wrote frankly and beautifully about his mental health issues. It's through Foote that I discovered Goodheir, and the extraordinary life that he led. I'm looking forward to talking about them both!
