We’re making ourselves heard, and we want to be very clear.

Attempts to shame, coerce or pressure people out of being lesbian, gay or bisexual are cruel and wrong. But the Draft Conversion Practices Bill poses real risks to the people it claims to protect, including children who may grow up L, G or B.

Families must be free to talk openly. Professionals must be free to explore every possible reason for a young person’s distress.

We submitted a Freedom Of Information request about the research that is being used to justify the dangerous Conversion Practices Bill.
We've just received a response saying we can't have the information because it is exempt as Ministers need to be able to take advice and discuss it in private.
They don't think the public interest outweighs that right

BUT a lot of the info we asked for doesn't impact on that.

Also, we'd argue there is an extremely strong public interest in knowing the basis on which normal conversations between parents and their children, therapists and their clients, teachers and their pupils etc will be criminalised.

We'll be asking for a review.
