Saturday night started the previous week when you’d get given a flyer outside the club. All week you’d be talking about the big US dj who was scheduled to play the following weekend that you only read about in mixmag or heard on your mates copy of a copy cassette tape. The Saturday was the pinnacle to the week’s build up to the main event. And that’s not to mention the mission and excitement of travelling to the club.

There’s a wider conversation here about being in and / or living the moment. We would be mesmerised watching said dj mix. Eyes fixed whilst watching them mix. Or appreciating your fellow clubbers surrounding you. That was the moment. Not a rewatch of the actual thing filmed on someone’s mobile you upload to instagram to somehow prove you were there and for dopamine likes from people barely know.

With that said, if we had the technology to film would we? Probably. In fact definitely. But that would have taken away the moment when everyone goes mental as the track finally drops and it’s just you, the music and everyone else.

It’s a shame because the benefit of having a camera in your pocket today, means you sacrifice the feeling of actually being 100% present in the moment.
