We were very honoured to be named Breeder of the Year at last night’s NZTBA National Breeding Awards.

The award carries the name of Cambridge Stud founders Sir Patrick and Justine Lady Hogan and we are proud to add another title to the five won by the Hogans during their time at Cambridge.

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated team who have all played an important part in this achievement.

A stakes performer during the Autumn, Persian Wonder brought the strongest form into today’s race and the son of Hello Youmzain showed plenty of fight in the closing stages to pick up the victory.

Out of the Pivotal mare Steer By The Stars, Persian Wonder is a full brother to talented 3YO Hello Captain and sold through our 2025 @inglis_sales Easter Yearling draft.

Our courageous mare Joliestar is safely back in Sydney, following her brilliant run at Royal Ascot last month.

A special thank you to Charlie Hills Racing at Lambourn, Nick Smith and his team at Royal Ascot, IRT for their care and attention to detail on the flights and her strapper Lee Mills and work rider Chris Harewood.

In Memory of Michael Knightly

The team at Primus and Coolmore is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of our dear friend and long-standing colleague, Michael Knightly.

For 26 years, Michael was a cornerstone of Primus and played an instrumental role in shaping the marketing, branding, and communications landscape of Coolmore. A true genius in his field, his sharp mind, creativity, and steady guidance were central to so much of our work and he has left an indelible mark on our team. 

Paying tribute, John Magnier said: "Michael brought an unmatched commitment and standard to everything he touched. We were very fortunate to have had him as part of our team. His contribution to Coolmore was exceptional and his impact on our business will not be forgotten." 
Beyond his immense professional talents, Michael was a true gentleman.

A brilliant colleague, a trusted mentor, and a steadfast friend to all who had the privilege of working alongside him; his influence extended far beyond the office into his local and sporting communities where he gave generously of his time and spirit.

Above all else, Michael was a devoted family man. His wife, Áine, and his two sons, Alec and Sammy, were his absolute world.

His presence, wisdom, and warm spirit will be profoundly missed by everyone across the Primus and Coolmore families, as well as the wider bloodstock community. We extend our deepest condolences to Áine, Alec, Sammy, his extended family, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing Michael.

Thank you to @NZTBAWaikato for giving us the opportunity to show off Chaldean’s first crop at the Waikato Weanling Walk yesterday.

We paraded 12 weanlings and they handled the big occasion like pros! It was fantastic to receive such positive feedback on their athleticism and classy temperaments.

We love seeing our weanlings strolling through the farm with confidence as they adapt to life without mum!

This time of year the weanlings are on a rotation that involves spending overnight in the barns and learning the ropes as we build towards yearling sale preparation later in the year.

🗣️ "Racing has to get involved in all the social media stuff and get it out there to everybody. We need to keep showing young people how amazing this sport of ours is. What's controlling everybody's minds at the moment is what's on their phones. X, Instagram, TikTok and all the various different things young people look at on their phones. That's what builds the imagination of our young people now.

"Look, it's not politically correct to say this, but let people have a bet and let them enjoy having a bet and feel what it's like to back a winner. You don't have to drink alcohol or take drugs to get that feeling because none of those things can give you that feeling of backing a winner.

"You have an opinion, you stand by your opinion, you then go and feel the adrenaline rush. If you get beaten you're disappointed, but you try to improve. But when you start working it all out and start getting it right, it's that feelgood factor that people need so badly in their lives.

"Everyone is working so hard day in and day out so everyone needs a little escape and racing gives people a very clean, decent escape.

"The betting is so controlled now that if someone is getting into trouble because of betting, it is picked up on very quickly. Don't be taking away these things that can make people feel better. Obviously, it can make people feel bad, but there are so many ways to help those people now.

"We have a positive story to tell in racing, so we need the young people to hear about it."
