🎉 Today, the results from our Up-LIFT pivotal trial were published in Nature Medicine, one of the world’s preeminent scientific journals.
This @NaturePortfolio publication is a key milestone advancing our mission to address the unmet needs of the spinal cord injury (SCI) community. 📑
The Up-LIFT study was designed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of our investigational ARC-EX® Therapy to improve upper limb mobility in people with chronic incomplete tetraplegia. The global study was conducted with 65 participants at 14 leading SCI centers in the United States, Europe, and Canada.
Here are the headlines:
⭐️ ARC-EX Therapy was shown to be safe and effective*
⭐️ 90% of participants improved either strength or function of their upper limbs*
⭐️ 87% of participants reported improvement in quality of life*
⭐️ Improvement was demonstrated in participants up to 34 years post-injury*
Study participants also reported reduced spasm frequency, improved sleep, and improved upper body sensation, including the sense of touch*. Self-care, a key component of independence after SCI, also improved statistically significantly*.
💡 These are remarkable results. Finally, there is a therapy to restore strength, function, and sensation after chronic spinal cord injury.
We have submitted an application to the US Food and Drug Administration for US regulatory clearance of the ARC-EX System. We hope to be able to offer ARC-EX Therapy to people with SCI in the US later this year and in Europe in mid-2025.
Let’s keep the momentum going. 🚀

Today we shared our 2024 strategic priorities, and we have an exciting year ahead! Our top priority is commercialization, and we look forward to bringing the first-ever therapy that can improve upper limb strength and function - even years after a spinal cord injury (SCI) – to the SCI Community in the US later this year.* Here’s more detail:
➡️ ARC-EX® commercial launch. We expect to launch our investigational ARC-EX System to improve the strength and function of the upper extremities after SCI in the US in Q4 2024. Major associated milestones this year include US FDA De Novo submission, FDA clearance, and first commercial sale.
➡️ ARC-IM® pivotal study commencement. We intend to start our global pivotal study, called Empower BP, to evaluate the potential for the investigational ARC-IM System to address blood pressure instability after SCI. Major associated milestones this year include FDA investigational device exemption (IDE) submission, FDA IDE approval and first participant enrollment.
➡️ ARC-BCI™ Therapy advancement. We plan to advance clinical and development activities for our investigational ARC-BCI System, leveraging grant funding, FDA Breakthrough Device Designation, and acceptance into the FDA’s new TAP program.
We also reaffirmed our recent guidance. Here are our unaudited Q4 2023 financial highlights:
✅ We plan to publish our Full Year 2023 financial statements on April 25, 2024.
✅ The preliminary unaudited cash and cash equivalent balance on December 31, 2023, was EUR 29.8 million.
✅ Net cash outflow in Q4, 2023 was EUR 7.0 million, consistent with the EUR 7.0M cash burn in Q3, 2023.
✅ We confirm our previous guidance of expected cash runway through the end of 2024 and will look for efficient ways to strengthen its balance sheet in the coming months.

“Each and every day a person with paralysis wakes to a waiting wheelchair or powerchair, our legs for the time-being and an opportunity to start our day.” - @scottchesney, ONWARD Medical Brand Ambassador and paraplegic for 38 years
On this #InternationalWheelchairDay, we recognize those who use wheelchairs or powerchairs to move forward each day. While our mission to empower movement is directed at reducing the time one spends in a wheelchair or powerchair, we appreciate the importance and value of these devices, which have enhanced the quality of life of many since the sixth-century AD.

The Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) system is a breakthrough technology enabling communication between the brain and the spinal cord, offering the potential for a person to regain movement in arms or legs after paralysis. This investigational system has already empowered individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI) to improve their mobility as part of ongoing clinical studies.
ONWARD Medical, in collaboration with the other Reverse Paralysis Project members, invites you to share your insights to help us shape the development of this technology.

We are deeply grateful for our partnership with the @ReeveFoundation. Our collaboration allows us to connect with the spinal cord injury (SCI) Community and understand their unmet needs.
This weekend, “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” will play at the @sundancefest. The documentary follows the journey of Christopher Reeve after he became paralyzed, a period during which @Variety notes “Reeve became a superhero again.” 🎥
Reeve’s story is an important one to share. His life’s work continues through the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation to help empower the SCI Community.

38 years ago today, Scott Chesney became paralyzed. The events of that day changed the course of his life, and today he is a motivational speaker and ambassador to the SCI community. Recently, we had a conversation with Scott about the anniversary of his spinal cord injury (SCI). The thoughts he shared about how and why he marks his SCI anniversary were deeply moving. In our inaugural episode of ONWARD Journeys, Scott explains what his SCI anniversary means to him and the life lessons it’s delivered. We are always in awe of Scott’s honesty, depth, and willingness to get vulnerable to help others.

We are incredibly proud to partner with the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. Recently, we had the pleasure of gathering with our friends at “Eve With Reeve,” an event to raise awareness and funds for spinal cord injury (SCI). The mission of the Reeve Foundation is to cure spinal cord injury by advancing innovative research and improving the quality of life for individuals and families impacted by paralysis. Our shared purpose brought us together in a strategic partnership in 2019, and our complementary areas of expertise make it exciting to learn from each other and collaborate.
Members of the ONWARD family came together in this memorable night. One of our biggest delights was spending time with Jessie, who took up painting as a hobby after participating in a clinical feasibility study at the University of Washington that evaluated the safety and effectiveness of our investigational ARC-EX platform to restore upper limb function after SCI. It was inspiring to watch her grasp the brush and make fine strokes on the canvas, resulting in a work of art that was beautiful and empowering. 🖌️🎨
The Reeve Foundation curated an evening that showcased how advocacy, innovation, and human connection make a visceral difference in the lives of people with SCI. Amid the profoundly critical work that’s taking place in the SCI Community, the memorable evening also highlighted the importance of reconnecting with collaborators and old friends amid music, dancing, and laughter – a good reminder of the power of joy.
Thank you, Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, for bringing the community together during this magical evening. 🌟
