I’ve been a supporter of Scottish independence for many years. But, I am saddened by the direction of travel shown by the SNP since the very capable Alex Salmond resigned as First Minister. But independence isn’t about the SNP. It’s way more existential than one political party.
I will always consider myself both British and Scottish. For myself and many others, independence is not about some sort of Braveheart-tinged dislike of the English. I absolutely adore England and the English. It’s not about a desire for passports or anthems. It’s about my homeland self determining a pathway that is diametrically opposite to the grotesque shitshow on display at Westminster for many years now.
Scotland has the economic capability to match the outputs of Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Finland or Sweden. But only if it is governed effectively with a real focus on harnessing the skills of the Scottish people and the business enterprise within Scotland. It should be less about being in thrall to big state control and multinational corporations and more prioritisation towards Scottish based enterprise.
I’m a believer in direct democracy. And as such, if political parties make up the majority of seats in Holyrood after the Scottish elections, then they should be granted a Scottish independence referendum. That’s real direct democracy in action.
Politics should always be about the will of the people rather than the wilfulness of politicians who try to block democracy.
And anyone who is a genuine ‘freedom fighter’ should recognise the right to sovereign freedom for any country - if the will of the people chooses to do so.

@KennyFarq@Albannach91 You are a intellegent guy Kenny, you know that this is not a binary choice i.e. independence or cost of living or independence or immigration.
Independence provides the umbrella across all of these other importatnt day to day issues. It can provide the levers to tackle all.
Show this clip to family and friends. They'll be shocked at the level of anti-Scottish propaganda peddled by BBC Scotland. They'll see the station in a different light.
This is a great story that puts the “pretend embassies” nonsense to bed.
The millions invested in Scotland’s international offices are driving billions back to Scotland.
The truth is, the unionist parties just can’t bear Scotland representing itself internationally. 🏴🌍
Note to the BBC: the power of Scotland and why they deserved more respect than a cringey wave-a-thon on Spoty. Where to start? Second oldest footballing nation in the world. Developed styles of football 150 years ago still pursued today. No Scotland, no passing. Helped spread the joy of football around the world, igniting the passion in Brazil and Argentina. Helped nurture famous English clubs like Aston Villa.
Introduced keepie-uppie to Wembley. Gave the game the wonderful Baxter, Law, Johnstone, McGrain, Bremner, Dalglish, Hansen, Souness and more recently Robertson and McTominay. Gave the game managers of the calibre and vision of Shankly, Busby, Stein and Ferguson.
Brought the refreshing and well-refreshed mobile party of the Tartan Army to tournaments, fans who raise spirits and raise funds for charities wherever they go. Have an anthem that stirs the blood and the soul. Qualified for the World Cup with a performance of guts and goalscoring glory. Staged their own Puskas award competition against Denmark.
Guided by a modest, proud and quietly inspirational manager in Steve Clarke.
Who should have had the successful, charismatic McTominay on the Spoty shortlist. McTominay deserved more respect from Spoty. So did Scotland.

England have just lost for the third time at Wembley this season, this time to Scotland, who then invade the Wembley pitch.

UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves says Scotland won’t get another referendum. Scotland’s future belongs to the people who live here, not Westminster. Next May, the Holyrood election will be our chance to make that choice unmistakable. #indyref2#SNP#democracy
No dedicated article on BBC Scotland covering this excellent news. There’s a definite censorship policy in operation. John Swinney’s visit to Dublin, his speech this week and now this. BBC Scotland is rancid.
📊 New polling shows Scotland already leans Yes - 52% to 48% in an immediate referendum.
⚠️ And a Reform UK government at Westminster would push support for independence even higher.
🏴 Let’s choose a better future made here in Scotland, not imposed by Westminster chaos.
🚨New Scotland Poll: SNP has opened a 17 point lead at 35% for Scottish Parliament. Labour collapses to 16% in third place behind Reform UK at 18%. 52% likely to vote in independence referendum saying they would vote YES. Details via @IpsosScotland👇 https://t.co/lYD5b62Bel
Scotland is a nation, and like every nation, we have the right to decide our own future.
With independence, we can lower energy bills, we can protect our NHS in a written constitution, and gain our own seat at the EU table.
Real hope, in your hands.

What’s driving so many Scots to consider saying ‘yes’ to independence has less to do with their view of Scotland and more to do with what they believe has happened to British politics and the grotesque mess of corporatist governance at Westminster.
It’s also got nothing to do with the SNP (who have descended into woke authoritarianism). Instead, Scotland must look way beyond that and find the right people to reshape a better path for Scotland and free from the busted flush model elsewhere. This is probably idealistic, but there’s no other alternative.
BBC in Scotland spent 24/7 trying to smear the former FM & SNP, in a media circus to damage her reputation, before the facts were established.
