Hey #LightPollution crowd, does anyone have any good resources for responsible parking lot lighting, especially photos? A place in my town isn't doing the right thing and they need a talkin'-to. I didn't see anything on @IDADarkSky's website that did the trick. Thanks.
I used a modified telescope to capture high-speed video of the eclipse at a long focal length. Seeing the lumpy mountains of the moon against a backdrop of churning plasma is incredibly surreal.
(I hope you weren't sick of eclipse posts 😜)
@VitalantNJ Hi... thank you for getting back to me but the post you responded to was from ** almost a year ago**. I don't have my donor ID number anymore. Like I tell the people when they call, I moved out of the area years ago, and didn't keep that bit of info. Vitaliant should do better.
Hey @VitalantNJ why do I keep getting calls from your reps even though I asked to be removed from your call list, and when I do, I'm told in order to get off the list I need to give more personal info? Just take me off your list... now.
Thread: Hey, with the start of the north’s winter, I thought maybe we could talk about one of the best parts of the nighttime sky:
*drum roll*
The Winter Circle!
This’ll be good for people who are new to the skies, but come along and have fun, even if you’re not new.

@versomedia Hi, Martin. Thank you, and all my best to you and yours this year. Happy new year, Merry Christmas and anything else you're celebrating. It's been a real great being in touch this year. The pleasure and honor's been mine. Here's to a great 2023.
This is a great post from my friend @jenndono12. If you're struggling after everything's that been going on for as long as we can remember, you're not alone.
@danfalk@VirveAljas That's interesting... growing up, I always heard it as the Winter Circle. It wasn't until a few years ago that I heard it called Winter Hexagon. I think the diff is including Castor, which isn't a first mag star. *shrug* Then there's the "Winter G," which brings in Betelgeuse.
@VirveAljas Orion's just amazing, though, isn't it? I think we can all be forgiven for missing the Winter Circle. I hope you can go out and see it soon, though, it's really amazing and it makes me smile even on the toughest days.
US folks: After the program ended a couple months ago, you can now get free Covid-19 tests from the US government again, by way of the post office.

Please. Just enjoy beer (or whatever it is you like). No need to make a contest out of it... unless it's like... backgammon or cribbage or water polo or whatever. (2/2)
This here really illustrates how much about the world (or maybe just the Internet) sucks these days. I'm a big beer fan. I've logged nearly 1000 distinct beers on Untappd. In 2022, I tried 56 different styles of beer this year, which is six more than last year. Yet, I need (1/2)

The greatest thing about Mastodon, so far, in my short time here, is a great, calm energy of the ideas. I don't sense a lot of hatred or heat. The exchange of ideas is the point. It feels like the early days of the internet -- I've been here since (1/2)
