One of the most important lessons I learned during student teaching had nothing to do with standards, lesson plans, or even technology.
It was this:
Take care of the staff.
My mentor would bring treats to the front office, the custodians, and the cafeteria workers. He made sure all of them felt seen and valued.
He understood something most people overlook:
Schools run because of the people who do the work most people don't see.
Still one of the best lessons I ever learned and one I carried through my entire career as a teacher and administrator.
