@PeterKolchinsky This is a great piece, Peter. Dating myself but I was on the Sell Side when Centocor and Synergen’s phase III sepsis trials failed. Valuations went to levels few believed and very little M&A got done. Boards and Management should pay attention. Investors will do their thing.

This is so true. Leadership in #lifesciences need to understand that #Bioinformatics expertise is not software engineering expertise. Bioinformatics compute on infrastructure built by software engineers. #DataScience
Most of biotech software problems are at their core, software problems - legacy code, scalability, observability, security, skill gaps etc. But the biotech software workforce and leadership is disproportionately made up of bio experts versus software experts. (1/2)

My coach said “focus on making the next pitch.” The lesson I learned and used with my kids was to reward process over outcome. It reframes failure for parent & child
@PeterKolchinsky I don’t know why Rxs were’t affected. I was doing work on Alkermes’ long acting formulation, spoke to 6 docs (n not that big) and their perception was the overall profile was best in class. But when I asked they couldn’t cite specific data/studies underpinning that perception.
@PeterKolchinsky True. Post launch aripiprazole was shown to be less effective than olanzipine and equivalent to risperidone in head to head RCTs but still dominates the class. Better sedation profile but the disparity in sales is quite large. Inferior efficacy didn’t reduce reward.
@PeterKolchinsky Agreed! But RWE post launch doesn’t often change prescribing in a straight line because it’s not clear signal for docs. Reps and company collateral act as a foil. Clear signal and label changes no doubt should and do effect sales. To me, drugs like Abilify are examples.
