Dr. @shaniececriss is teaching us about the social determinants of health (SDOH) and the associations with maternal and infant health. SDOH influence health in multiple time points, which can be alleviated through primary, secondary, or tertiary prevention with public health.
Dr. Criss’s research shows how they used Twitter as a proxy for racism to see how increased racism in states correlates with low birth rate and preterm births among pregnant people.
This presentation is facilitating an engaging conversation about what issues need to be addressed, including increasing access to healthcare and social determinants of health.
Tameca Wilson from the @modhealthtalk is educating our Governing Council and membership present at the 2023 Annual Business Meeting about the important issue of infant and maternal mortality in SC.

Dr. Beth Sundstrom, in partnership with @FactForwardOrg developed a new campaign, Chat About It, to reach youth of color with factual sexual and reproductive health information. They used the Reproductive Justice Theoretical Framework to guide this project. #SCPHA2023
Youth shared that messages about contraceptive use should share empowering stories and address intimacy/pleasure, sexuality, and trust through a sex-positive lens.
