Portland Public Schools apparently looked at all the things parents are worried about, reading scores, discipline, safety, teacher shortages, basic academic standards, and decided what students really needed for the first day of school was a welcome back video from a drag queen.

Because of course they did.

In a post on X, Libs of TikTok wrote, “Portland Public Schools welcomes students back with a drag queen,” adding that “PPSConnect is introducing your children to alternate queer gender identities.”

The video featured Dr. Poison Waters, the drag persona of Portland performer Kevin Cook, who said, “I’m here to wish you all a successful 2026-2027 school year, and to thank all the amazing principals, teachers, and staff for your dedication to your students and their learning.”

The obvious question is why?

Why does a public school district need a drag queen in a welcome back video for children?

There are plenty of places for drag performers. Broadway. Clubs. Adult venues. Private events. Fine. This is America. Adults can do what adults want to do.

But a K-12 public school system is not an adult performance space, and children are not props for the left’s latest social experiment.

This is exactly why parents are fed up. They keep being told this is “inclusive,” “affirming” and “age appropriate,” but somehow it always seems to point in the same direction, pushing gender ideology, sexual identity language and confusing adult identity politics into childhood spaces.

And when parents object, they are treated like the problem.

President Trump’s executive order on K-12 education targeted federal support for radical indoctrination, including gender ideology in schools, and put the focus back where it belongs, on parental rights and actual education.

This needs to stop.

Public schools exist to teach reading, writing, math, history, science, discipline and citizenship. They do not exist to condition children into accepting whatever gender theory the activist class is selling this year.

Parents are not asking for anything radical. They are asking schools to stop dragging children into adult culture-war nonsense.

@kariwarburton We have a Tongan Ward in our Stake, and they begin singing about 30 minutes before Sacrament Meeting starts. I asked my counselor why, and he said it helps them prepare to be reverent. Just beautiful!
