Monday Morning Market Update

Here are some of the assets that performed the best... and the worst... over the past week, plus what’s moving today.

Precious metals (Gold & Silver)

Gold and silver extended their rally over the past week as safe-haven demand and a softer U.S. dollar continued to drive inflows. That momentum accelerated this morning, with gold pushing to record highs above $4,400/oz and silver hitting a fresh all-time peak near $69.44/oz, cementing silver’s roughly 130% year-to-date gain.

U.S. Dollar (DXY)

The dollar softened over the past week following November CPI data showing inflation at 2.7%, reinforcing expectations for future rate cuts. This morning, the DXY is holding steady near 98.6, a level that continues to support commodities and precious metals amid year-end positioning.

Energy (WTI & Brent)

Oil prices weakened through much of last week, with both Brent and WTI finishing down about 1% as oversupply concerns briefly outweighed geopolitical risks. Today, prices are edging higher, with Brent near $61 and WTI around $57, after weekend developments involving a U.S. interception of a Venezuelan tanker added a modest risk premium.

Equities

U.S. equities posted modest gains over the past week, with the NASDAQ 100 up 0.59% and the S&P 500 rising 0.10%, as investors remained selective into year-end. Futures are higher this morning as the seasonal Santa Claus rally window begins, while in Asia the Nikkei 225 moved above 50,000 for the first time following the Bank of Japan’s rate hike to 0.75% on Friday, the highest level in 30 years.

Digital assets

Bitcoin spent last week consolidating in a narrow range between $88K–$89K as liquidity thinned ahead of the holidays. That pattern continues this morning, with BTC still searching for direction after a roughly 30% pullback from its October record high near $126K.
