Charmingly light, goofy and mostly wholesome family fun, Shazam delivers exactly on the promise of the trailers without ultimately offering up much more from the superhero origin playbook. Repeated scenes could have been trimmed to make a much breezier time as lags in spots. ~S
Us (2019): Captivating home invasion first third pivots into a fun horror-comedy before ending with a muddied wrap-up of villain monologues, think-piece bait, and super signposted twist end. As a sum of its parts though, Us makes for a unique, interesting & entertaining ride. ~S
Apocalyptic inspirations for Bird Box (2018) are seemingly put right on front street (The Mist, The Happening etc). Story is often clumsily told, characters all clichés, yet I still found myself into the absurdity of the idea for large patches until the comparatively dull end. ~S
