Two Overnight Structure Fires in San Bernardino; One Fatality, Multiple Residents Displaced
San Bernardino, CA – The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District responded to two significant structure fires overnight in the City of San Bernardino, with one incident resulting in the displacement of several residents and the second tragically leading to the death of an elderly man.
The first fire was reported yesterday at 6:20 p.m. on the 200 block of Magnolia Street. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the windows of an upstairs unit within a four-unit apartment complex. Crews initiated an exterior attack to quickly knock down the main body of fire before transitioning inside to complete extinguishment. Fire damage was contained to the single upstairs unit, while one downstairs unit experienced water damage. No injuries were reported. Three adults and one child were displaced and received assistance from the American Red Cross. A total of five engines, two truck companies, one battalion chief, one fire investigator, and one public information officer responded. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by San Bernardino Fire’s Office of the Fire Marshal.
The second fire occurred in the early morning hours, reported at 4:16 a.m. on the 6800 block of Elmwood Road. Initially dispatched as a residential alarm, the first-due engine encountered heavy smoke in the area and requested a full residential structure fire response. Upon arrival, firefighters were met by neighbors who reported that an elderly male resident lived alone in the home and was believed to be inside. Crews immediately forced entry, advanced a hose line, and located the victim inside the structure. Firefighters removed him from the home and initiated patient care with assistance from American Medical Response. The patient was transported to a local hospital in grave condition and later succumbed to his injuries. After the rescue, crews quickly contained the fire with support from truck company operations on the roof. No other structures were damaged. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by San Bernardino County Fire’s Office of the Fire Marshal and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Arson & Bomb unit.
SBCoFD expresses its deepest condolences to the family and community affected by the fatal incident and urges residents to test smoke alarms regularly, especially during the winter months when home-heating fires increase.

San Bernardino County Fire Battles Overnight Vacant Apartment Fire
San Bernardino, CA – Early this morning, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District crews responded to a reported structure fire on the 1300 block of East Marshall Boulevard in the City of San Bernardino. The call came in at approximately 1:26 a.m., reporting an apartment building on fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions involving portions of the first floor and the entirety of the second floor of a vacant garden-style apartment structure. Due to severe damage to the stairway, crews were forced to breach walls with power saws and hand tools to gain access to the interior of the second story to continue suppression efforts.
Thanks to the quick actions of firefighters, the fire was confined to the involved structure and prevented from spreading to nearby buildings. There were no injuries reported among civilians or firefighters.
A total of four engine companies, one truck company, one medic squad, one battalion chief, one fire investigator, and one public information officer responded to the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the San Bernardino County Fire Office of the Fire Marshal.
