A reminder to please get yourself checked for prostate cancer if you’re within any of the danger categories!

Early prostate cancer often has no symptoms. Don’t wait to feel unwell.

You’re at higher risk if you:

• are above the age of 45.
• have any suspicious symptoms.
• are Black (about 1 in 4 Black men get it, compared with 1 in 8 men overall).
• have a father or brother who had prostate cancer.
• have a BRCA2 gene change, or a strong family history of prostate, breast, ovarian or pancreatic cancer.

If that sounds like you, speak to your GP from age 45. Other men can ask from 50.
There is no routine NHS screening for all men. You can still ask your GP for a PSA blood test. Talk through the pros and cons first - a raised PSA does not always mean cancer.

Book that chat this week. Catching it early makes treatment far more effective.

British farmers are under immense pressure right now – and they need our full support.

This summer’s relentless heatwaves and drought have hit UK agriculture hard. Record temperatures and the driest July on record in England and Wales have left fields cracked and parched.

Harvests have come weeks early in many places, with cereal and oilseed yields looking set for one of the worst years since detailed records began in 1984.

Wheat, spring barley and oats are well down on the 10-year average – some farms reporting 15-50% lower yields – potentially costing arable producers hundreds of millions in lost revenue. Grass growth has stalled, milk production has dropped due to heat-stressed cows, and livestock are struggling in the extreme conditions. Root crops, fruit and potatoes are also at risk.

On top of that, the hot weather has fuelled a serious bluetongue outbreak. Cases of the virus (mainly BTV-3), spread by midges that thrive in these conditions, have climbed rapidly – hundreds confirmed across the UK, with the South West particularly hard hit. Sheep and cattle are suffering fever, swelling, lameness and worse; some farms have lost animals.

Farmers are being urged to stay vigilant, report symptoms and talk to their vets about vaccination.

It’s a perfect storm of extreme weather and disease, coming after previous tough seasons. Family farms are feeling the financial and emotional strain. These are the people who put food on our tables every day, often working around the clock in challenging conditions.

To every British farmer out there: we see you. We know how tough this is. Keep going – your resilience, skill and dedication keep this country fed. You’re not alone. The public is behind you, buying British where we can, and calling for the support you need to weather this. Hang in there. Better days and better seasons will come. We’ve got your back. 🇬🇧🌾

1. Transfer the tens of billions earmarked for net zero to defence and supply chain resilience, to create a major industrial/defence sector, thereby creating skilled jobs in UK, rather than China (as net zero does)
2. Radical tough love welfare reform to get 1m people of working age into work, thereby cutting the welfare bill and increasing the tax base. Coupled with massive expansion of German-class STEM skill apprenticeships.
3. Radical reform of planning laws to stop nimbys/greens from thwarting every major infrastructure development. Put judges/courts in their place when it comes to such matters.
4. Put rocket boosters under high-speed rail link between Leeds-Manchester-Liverpool. Brook no opposition/delay.
5. Unleash North Sea oil/gas + slash energy bills by removing all green levies. New breed of gas-fired and smaller nuke generating stations.
Much more to suggest. But this should be good for starters.
