@brianlring 1000% agree producers have to test pricing. That’s not exploration of the consumer, that’s just how capitalism works. Prices eventually move to an equilibrium between supply and demand.
So many things I’ve learned these past 6 months. Many I wish I had known as a younger man. But that couldn’t have happened without my life experience. that has provided a relief against which to view the contrast with other things.
@ScottPorch @aagave@hbomax Netflix is too young and not enough of a track record to compete on a legacy of quality. Keep building, and in a few years that msg is available. For now focus on fit not freshness.
@ScottPorch @aagave@hbomax I think these shows matter long term and for a perception of quality. But Netflix should not be lured into playing HBOs game: focus on tech/ product to make better personalization and “the most good enough” recommendations.
@ScottPorch @aagave@hbomax This is the marketing speak that makes me cringe but they have to ALIGN the positioning with content acquisition and product strategies.
@ScottPorch @aagave@hbomax the sopranos - a 23 year old show - remains a totem for HBO as an icon of entertainment. Netflix can’t achieve that over 3 years of is it cake. But that may not be the RIGHT position for Netflix. You kind of have to discover it and I think that’s part of the pain now.
@ScottPorch @aagave Just “Take some Netflix and Chill”. We’ve got the rest covered.
Basically talking more about the benefits than how the sausage is made.
Fine, here’s what I think is going on:
White men have long been a minority in US society (currently 29%), but until very recently, they controlled all the ladders of ascent into cultural, political, media, or economic relevance.
