Let me get this straight. 18 #tvdsb senior staff had a Toronto retreat?? My school won't have photocopy paper, and kids won't have pencils due to an $8 M deficit, but execs get a retreat? Why aren't basic teaching supplies "an industry standard"? #onted https://t.co/njJKrZs7yk
It’s going to feel like 40+ degrees this week, and most schools don’t have AC, nor enough shaded outdoor spaces. Last year we had smoke days. This year we’re having heat days. As the climate crisis accelerates, what’s the plan for Ontario schools? #onted
Let's make a deal - no A/C for the adults at the Ministry or Board offices unless there is A/C for the kids in the classrooms of Ontario. 🤷♂️
If we made that deal, imagine how fast things would change, for kids.
Doug Ford - invest in safe schools now!

My husband got a 1% raise. Far less than inflation. He's going to quit this year over it.
"The teaching industry has long been marked by low pay, but as inflation took over the economy, many educators found it even harder to pay the bills without a raise"

Schools in Ontario are critically underfunded, and no amount of Lecce’s creative accounting and political spin can hide that.
Our kids deserve better support than they are getting from this government.

#onted@ETFOeducators@ETFOpresident w/ the years of 0% increase, then only 1% increase. Asking for 21% is reasonable to make up for what we lost, for not keeping up w/ COL. Any offer less than the 12% the nurses received is insulting. Don't even bring it back to the membership.
Surprise, surprise. There's a global teacher shortage, and UNESCO said its findings pointed to three main factors: poor working conditions, high levels of stress, and low pay. #onted#cdned#edchat

The following table sheds some more light on #onted's teacher shortage. The starting salary for a TCDSB teacher in 2012 was 17.3% less than the starting salary for a TO Police constable. This difference has more than doubled to 34.8%! This needs to be corrected.
As a teacher, this is what I want to say to SOME parents:
Stop making excuses for your kids.
STOP IT.
Teach them to earn things, not demand things.
Hold them to a higher standard.
Challenge them.
That way, when I try to challenge them, they’ll know we both expect it.

I’m amazed at teacher contracts…specifically what little time is provided for teachers to actually get stuff done.
How in the world did it ever become normal to provide such little time to prepare for SO MUCH?!
And don’t get me started regarding the time provided to eat lunch.
