Dear @WhiteHouse, my name is Rodney Smith Jr., founder of Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service in Huntsville, Alabama. Through our 50 Yard Challenge, over 6,000 kids across the country have signed up to mow free lawns for the elderly, disabled, veterans, active-duty military, first responders, and single parents. With America celebrating its 250th birthday this year and me also being born on July 4th, I wanted to humbly ask if a few kids from our program and myself could travel to Washington, D.C. to help mow the White House lawn for this historic celebration.
More than anything, I want these kids to see how a simple act of service something as ordinary as mowing a lawn for someone in need can lead to extraordinary places. What better lesson in community service than showing them that helping others can take them all the way to our nation’s capital? I’d also love to bring my American flag-themed mower in hopes that the President might sign it, so I can later auction it off and donate 100% of the proceeds to a nonprofit supporting veterans. It would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to highlight the importance of service, patriotism, and the impact young people can have when they choose to make a difference. 🇺🇸
@dagenmcdowell Transitioning is hard to watch but knowing where he will be for eternity helps. We still miss them on this rock in our daily routines. Prayers for strength now and the future
95 years ago today…
On May 1, 1931, the Empire State Building officially opened its doors, rising 1,250 feet above Manhattan after an incredible 410 days of construction—a remarkable feat powered by thousands of workers during the depths of the Great Depression. Developed by John J. Raskob and built by Starrett Bros. & Eken, it claimed the title of the world’s tallest building and symbolized resilience and forward momentum at a time when the country needed it most.
In the decades that followed, the building quickly became more than an architectural achievement—it turned into a cultural touchstone recognized across the globe. Its silhouette defined the New York City skyline, while its observatories welcomed millions of visitors seeking that unforgettable view from the heart of Manhattan.
From its starring role in King Kong to appearances in countless films, television shows, and defining New York moments, the Empire State Building has cemented itself as a pop culture legend. For 95 years, it has stood as a beacon of ambition, romance, and possibility—an icon that continues to inspire dreamers reaching for something higher.
While our flags here in Ohio are now back to full staff, our hearts are still heavy for the three Ohio airmen who lost their lives recently in the war with Iran. May God bless these three brave Ohioans, and may God bless their families.
It wasn’t until tonight that I realized that after I first saw real combat [not we got shot at or the truck behind us took a hit… but I pulled a guy out of a wadi and put him on a bird missing parts and I really just hope he lived combat] I don’t have any pictures smiling.
A lot of political opinions and overtures on this app. Even from combat vets like myself. Maybe we all need to take a stroll down memory lane and remember that day when we stopped smiling for pictures. When it was no longer exciting, but terrifying. Not the day we lost our nerve, but the day we actually found it. The day that the hypothetical became reality. The day we took a punch to the face and had to get up off the mat for more rounds. Remember that day and remember those who’ve lived it themselves in the past few weeks, most of them not combat MOSs. All of them heroes. I am so damn proud of the men and women who serve this country. They are not without fear. They are brave with it.
NEW: Kentucky family rejects $26 million offer to convert part of their farm into a data center despite the offer being about 10 times the going rate for farmland in the area.
"If it's my way, I'll stay and hold and feed a nation. 26 million doesn't mean anything."
"As long as I'm on this land, as long as it's feeding me, as long as it's taking care of me, there's nothing that can destroy me if I've got this land."
