In 2008 I had the opportunity to spend a bit of time after the @globalvoices summit in Budapest with Wael Abbas and Alaa Abd El-Fattah - I can’t find the full interview atm, but here’s a short extract in which Alaa appears at around 4 mins:

The National Allotment Society says there is no war on #allotments. The Telegraph’s disingenuous & inflammatory reporting (so out of character!) was designed to politicise & polarise another arena of communal life, as the comments show:
🚨NEW: No. 10 staffer tells me that the 'selling off allotments' policy was issued in revenge after Jeremy Corbyn announced his new party. Staffer tells there was a meeting on Monday to decide how to react and this one got passed and Rayner was sent out with it this morning 🧵
@Telegraph Disappointingly poor quality, agenda-driven reporting with a clickbait headline designed to outrage and divide rather than inform. Here’s what the National #Allotment Society says:
Another prominent scientist protests to the @royalsociety over its silence at the anti-#science actions of the owner of this site.

Have been thinking recently that I need to take a course in economics, but this terrific thread, and listening to @KateRaworth on @ExponentialView, is making me wonder whether intro courses are really fit for purpose...
