Bollington Town Cllr. Views are my own & may not reflect the collective view of Bollington Town Council.
Capital moves around the world in seconds. Labour in hours & days.
But culture moves in centuries. It is the bedrock of our communities and its cohesion is vital to the social contract.
A remarkable example of the persistence of culture across centuries:

@ToffeeLuke1878@PSDuffy@AaronHo89273537@RichardEllicott@owenjonesjourno No, the question was what the weather would be in the UK in 10 years. Who knows.
The story from the climate sensationalists used to be that it would be cooler, due to artic melt pushing the gulf stream south.
It is just the journalistic grift that keeps on giving.
@ToffeeLuke1878@PSDuffy@AaronHo89273537@RichardEllicott@owenjonesjourno You do know that historical data only gives you questions not answers, right?
The scientific method is then a (negative) test of those questions.
Eg. You cannot say it it is true that all swans are white. But it is true that all swans are not white, if there is a black swan.
@ToffeeLuke1878@PSDuffy@AaronHo89273537@RichardEllicott@owenjonesjourno Just to be clear, Owen is saying the weather in 10 years time will be "genuinely terrifying".
You are welcome to extrapolate the climate data if you like. But you have no control (another Earth), & are not even confident of the variables or of their relative influence.
@ToffeeLuke1878@PSDuffy@AaronHo89273537@RichardEllicott@owenjonesjourno I'm baffled by how few people understand the Popperian scientific method. But here we are.
If you feel confident about predicting the extremity (or otherwise) of the weather in the UK in 10 years time, as Owen does, then I suggest you go to the bookies.
The North of England has the best town halls in the country.
Todmorden's is my favourite. It straddles the historic border between Lancashire and Yorkshire.
Many a fellow in the building's ballroom wooed a girl in Yorkshire and waltzed her back into more genteel Lancashire. 🌹
Ok, so my wife and I scrimped and saved to move to a house double the price of our existing one so our kids could attend an excellent state school. The school is why prices are so high - it’s selection by wealth. It also feeds in to a top 10 sixth form college.
We bought our kids “privilege” within the state system. Much wider occurrence than kids attending private school
What’s your plan there? Ban moving house? Send the best teachers away? Stop educated parents helping their kids? Ban tutors? Prevent parents engaging with their kids education?
Of course the answer is none of these, because it’s not an easy political point to throw to your base.
Electricity is only 20% of global energy demand. The rest is primary for travel or heating / cooling, etc.
We aren’t anywhere close to an “energy transition.”
The full data tell a very different story.
No there has never been a scandal as bad as the grooming gangs and the reluctance for people to admit it exists. We still have politicians who refuse to acknowledge that grooming gangs happened at all as an organised and structural practice
