Last year, MongoDB did a good number of SDR internal promotions to AE but also hired a ton of external AEs.

Almost all of the internal AEs are crushing it and well-loved by their account teams.

Almost all of the external hires have gotten PIP'd or left the company.

Those forged in the fire of SDR purgatory tend to do well as AEs in the same org. Also it takes a long time to learn the different products and tools and politics, etc.
