NEW: As one University of Mississippi official publicly denounced racism, he courted support from a wealthy alum who sent him emails calling black students "African hookers" & Serena Wiliams an "ape."
The donor helped pick UM's new chancellor in 2019. (1)

I encourage all of you to sign this petition for my university to change the name of a campus building. Its namesake was not only a slave owner, but an intense defender of slavery. Our legacy could be so much better, @marshallu.

Making the change, to rename Jenkins Hall, will not change history, but it will spark history. A history of calling into question our institutions and starting to forge a new history that seeks not only to condemn but undo white supremacy.
@lilMisChrysalis and then when students protested on Marshalls campus about the naming of Jenkins hall, demanding a rename, the school board simply replied with "oh, here's a plaque instead"
Remember how @marshallu hired a historian to go over the atrocities committed against black people by Albert Gallatin Jenkins and pretty much said, "You know what, we would still like to honor this man by having a building named after him."? #BlackLivesMatter@MarshalluPres
Y’all. Y’ALL. They cancelled the police contract with public schools!! Ed folks wondering how to make an impact - THIS IS HOW. Abolition aint gonna happen in one fell swoop - cops out of schools keeps our kids safe AND cuts the police revenue #defundthepolice#AbolishThePolice
If a major university eliminates three teaching positions, and all three were dedicated to the study of race and gender, it wasn’t really about balancing the budget.
If anyone writes or has an opinion about opening campuses in the fall, I *immediately* look up their salary.
