From Meade County South Dakota
Good Morning, Meade County!
Well... we warned you.
Don't Run North.
Yesterday afternoon we received information that a stolen Ford pickup was in the Faith area. It wasn't long before the Faith Chief of Police located the truck, attempted a traffic stop, and the chase was on.
Our deputies and some troopers headed north to assist while the suspect demonstrated his questionable life choices by swerving all over the road and redecorating Meade County with empty beer cans.
The pursuit traveled through Faith, where law enforcement slowed significantly. Why? Because protecting innocent people will always come before catching a criminal. The suspect didn't seem concerned about anyone else's safety. We were.
Eventually, the suspect disappeared for a short time, but with additional resources responding from across the region, it wasn't long before the chase was back on with the suspect headed south on Avance Road.
Here's something worth talking about.
People often ask why law enforcement doesn't simply chase at any cost. The answer is simple—we don't get to make reckless decisions just because the bad guy does. Every pursuit is constantly evaluated. We have a responsibility to protect everyone on the road, including the people who had absolutely nothing to do with the incident.
But here's something else that's just as important.
Our community expects us to hold criminals accountable. Victims deserve that. Honest citizens deserve that. If criminals believe all they have to do is hit the gas pedal to escape, they'll do it every single time.
So yes... if you run, we are coming after you.
We're just going to do it as safely, professionally, and intelligently as we possibly can.
Then came one of those moments that reminds you exactly why Meade County is such a special place to live.
A local rancher got the call asking if he could help.
Without hesitation, he put his airplane in the air.
Working alongside the Ziebach County Sheriff, they began searching from above. Around 8:20 p.m., they located the stolen pickup sitting out in a pasture after the suspect had decided roads were apparently optional. The aircraft stayed overhead, circling the location until deputies and assisting officers could safely converge on the pickup.
Even then, the suspect wasn't quite ready to admit the day's plan wasn't working. He advanced toward officers and was quickly introduced to several less-lethal bean bag rounds, which turned out to be far more persuasive than our verbal requests. He was taken into custody, offered medical attention, and transported to the Meade County Jail.
The stolen pickup was returned to its rightful owner—dirty, out of gas, and looking like it had a rough afternoon—but back where it belongs.
From the first report at 2:22 p.m. until the suspect was in custody at 10:20 p.m., this was an incredible display of teamwork. Faith Police, Ziebach County, SD Highway Patrol, our deputies, assisting agencies, dispatchers, and one very generous local pilot all played a part in bringing this to a safe conclusion.
To the rancher who launched his plane without hesitation... thank you. That's the kind of neighbor you hope you never need, but you're awfully glad to have when you do. And yes... we'd still like to buy the fuel.
This is what makes Meade County different.
Around here, people step up. Neighbors help neighbors. Our law enforcement agencies work together. Our community backs one another when it matters most.
And to anyone thinking that running north is a good escape plan...
You might want to remember that around here, the bad guys have to outrun patrol cars... and occasionally airplanes.
We'll do everything we can to catch you.
We'll do everything we can to do it safely.
Because that's what this community deserves.

A lifetime exemption is a privilege extended by Augusta to its champions out of respect.
If that respect is not reciprocated, there is no law that says a past champ cannot be banned.
I’m not sure they should have Sergio Garcia back after the garbage he pulled today. #themasters
Kids Today: I think I'm going to play outside
Parents Today: Ok but only in the fenced in backyard so I can watch you on the security monitor and come in every 20 min to hydrate
.
Kids in the 80s: The creek is flooded, we're going to chute it with the makeshift raft we built out of scrap lumber
Parents in the 80s: Change out of your school clothes first 😂#RealTalk
@ChrisMartzWX So let's see. You do the weather and you think you're an expert on how the atmosphere changes over thousands of years. Or dozens
You're an imbecile. STFU, child, and remember that if we listen to you, when you're "Granpa" you'll get to watch your grandchildren suffocate
How would you feel if you found out that, for the past three seasons, Kevin O’Connell, Brian Flores, and others have been making all the decisions for the Minnesota Vikings—draft picks, trades, free agency, the 53-man roster, the practice squad, everything—while Kwesi was mostly just the face and a liaison? Would that change your opinion, or would it make you start to question ownership? #vikings #nfl #skol
So folks at @espn are upset ND isn’t playing in a bowl game after weeks of folks politicking against the lack of conference affiliation, using them as a pawn for their CFB playoff selection show, having the ACC network play the UM/ND game on repeat for 48 hours during Conf Champ week BUT now it’s a bad look they don’t want to serve ESPN’s best interest by playing in an exhibition bowl game? Got it.
You KNEW Miami beat ND thru the 1st 5 reveals then you suddenly drop us out of the field when all we did was win???? You were the ones who put us 9th to begin with!!! That’s just cruel. What a sham. SEC bias is real.
Notre Dame dropped 2 CFP ranking spots following a 49-20 win at Stanford and no 13th game.
Alabama gained 1 spot following a 27-20 win at Auburn and a 28-7 loss to Georgia.
ND was penalized for a 27-24 loss at Miami in Week 1.
Bama's 31-17 loss to FSU in Week 1 didn't matter.
