What takes like this ignore is that the far more insane announcement from 2016 of a giant methalox powered rocket has actually been built and flown by the company that hadn't even reused a rocket.
SpaceX spends more on Starship alone than they earned in all of 2016.
I know it’s become pretty cliche and cringey to talk about at this point but if you’re under like 25 I cannot stress enough how one time Obama wore a tan suit and people spent a week arguing over whether or not it was demeaning to the Oval Office and they were serious about it.
Starship (the ship portion that you see in this video) is 52m (171ft) tall and 9m (29.5ft) in diameter - imagine the statue of liberty without the pedestal (46m), but taller. To do this flip maneuver and almost graceful water landing right after free falling from space is wild 🤯
The new world was explored on myths of golden cities. It was later settled as an exit.
The price of a Mars trip per person will be less than the cost of the voyage to Plymouth and Jamestown.
Both remained unprofitable and were not self-sufficient for decades. There is precedent
We made it. It’s hard to describe how much work, intensity, sweat (literal when walking down the ship ox tank or frustum), and passion went into S39 from my ship stage RE team and entire ship and booster teams and everyone else. It’s always this the amazes me on a successful launch like this, and this most of all: how I have the honor to witness and live alongside fellow humans and friends driven by their infinite desire, each one expressing it in the way that was given, either be a thermal fluids analyst, or a supply chain engineer, or a cook or a gnc engineer or a build engineer or a technician. Starships, and men, are meant to fly.
Maybe it’s the Gen-Z in me, but i fully don’t care about privacy. I am post-privacy. I am giving OpenAI access to all of my finances, all of my health data, everything, I don’t care anymore
No clue about validity of this rumor, however, one thing it gets wrong is not being a launch contender. quick groking suggests southern trajectory launches for the 1M AI sats going into SSO should have a clear path and less air traffic issues. Very Large relatively unpopulated area would be ideal for massive scale up of the launches and fuel creation required. It is the “type” of campus you’d want if you’re going to launch 1-10k times a year.
I’d have to imagine a site like this would be a clearly better choice than Vandenberg when it comes to scaling SSO launches in both proximity to Starbase and regulatory friendliness.
If it does turn out to be the spot, it turns the Gulf of America into effectively the Space Gulf.
Three years since the first flight of Starship, the next generation is here. New ship. New booster. New engines. New pad and new test site. SpaceX engineers are working to solve one of the most difficult engineering challenges in history: developing a fully, rapidly reusable rocket
The best theory I’ve heard is that one of those betting sites like Polymarket or Kashi had the odds of Trump saying “Praise be to Allah” on Easter Sunday at odds of something like a trillion to one so the username “RealJohnBarron47” just made a killing
