🚨 CAF BACKS FIFA’S DECISION TO ABANDON FFE PROJECT AND UNANIMOUSLY SUPPORTS GIANNI INFANTINO.

Statement:

"The CAF welcomes and approves the ‘Joint Update’ issued by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Secretary General Mattias Grafström.

CAF will continue to focus on its objective of making African football one of the best in the world and reaffirms its commitment to respecting international best practices in governance, transparency and auditing.

For us in Africa, respect for governance, due processes and transparency is essential and non-negotiable, as these are the standards and principles we expect from our governments, businesses, institutions and organisations.

CAF will also continue to focus on the development of young male and female footballers, coaches and trainers, the National Teams of its 54 Member Associations, as well as amateur and professional leagues across the continent.

Encouraging progress is being made in discussions with our current and new sponsors, partners and investors to ensure that CAF remains financially self-sufficient and independent, and that stadiums and other football infrastructure are built and modernised.

Progress is also being made in preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (“AFCON”) Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda (“PAMOJA”) and other CAF competitions.

The CAF Executive Committee has also unanimously reaffirmed its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino and thanked him for his continued support of African football over the years. President Infantino, FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström, and the FIFA administration were also thanked for the successful organisation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The level of football displayed at the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (“WAFCON”) 2026 in Morocco has been very high, and the competition has been a huge success."
