HUGE NEWS!!!! SENSORY: LIFE ON THE SPECTRUM is being published by @AndrewsMcMeel and will be available in Fall 2022!!!
Our little autistic passion project is going to be in bookstores!!! 😭😭😭😭😭
Had issues with my teapot ceramics project today (including a small meltdown, yayyyyyyy) but successfully pivoted to turning it into a little garlic holder. Go me! 🧄️🔥
@AsiatuCoach@MikaelaHobart Interoception also is a big one! I remember when I was little I would have no idea when I was hungry all day, but would suddenly be starving/cranky. Nothing would sound good to me which led to crying/meltdowns. Now I take safe snacks with me everywhere and eat on a schedule. 😋
@AsiatuCoach@MikaelaHobart Lining up and stacking items on restaurant tables since I was small, especially when feeling like I needed a break in a social engagement. Was a theater kid so a lot of late night diners in high school. My favorites were the little creamers for coffee.
@Schnumn Yes, I would love to take a workshop this like from you! I am also more interested in the emotional and energy management aspects, like how to be visible without totally exhausting yourself, how to work with others, how to let go of perfectionism, how to set boundaries.
@Beautidivergen2@HHarris777@AsiatuCoach There's an outdoors sound I asociate with atmospheric pressure that kind of sounds like the inside of a cave, my husband doesn't hear it. I haven't asked if he can feel differences in pressure/humidity I'll have to check!
I've also visited a lot of homes for my previous job in UX Research, I would love to bring some of the innovations and differences I've observed in disabled spaces into my environment art.
Been working hard on environments in my illustration class. I've always found backgrounds really intimidating as I have some spatial visualization difficulties but I think I'm learning! WIP below...
If I can get confident in these skills I'd love to do a series on disabled homes. Our furniture is against walls and we have a lot of empty space for my husband's wheelchair, but I also have a ton of stuff stored visibly/on surfaces/in baskets because of ADHD.
@QueenUtica Catching up on S13, just finished this episode and LITERALLY gasped when this came out. So happy you got more recognition for this look it is beautiful!
@Keah_Maria Cute! I really like Olive and June's bright rainbow colors. I generally can't wear nail polish because of sensory issues but their polish feels "lighter" to me and I can wear more often. I also like Liquid Glass polishes by static nails!
I'm also interested in brightly colored animals and plants because I like "natural" things and fibers, which is often expressed in clothing as muted tones. But is that accurate to what I observe and am drawn to in nature? Photos from my camera roll 👇
Thinking about radical visibility, clothing, liberation, bright colors. I tend toward darker colors because I choose clothes based on feel and texture, so it's easier to wear things that are "acceptable" if I'm working from one darker color story. But it also "shrinks" me.
What might I look like, wear or create coming from a place of advertising a message to those who see me? Like a blue ringed octopus advertising poison, or a peacock advertising its genetic virtues?
