Modern American media is largely written by the cynical and dysfunctional children of executives. Stories today are written by people with no life experience carrying chips on their shoulders over parents who spent more time at board meetings than with them.

This is why so many remakes subvert or undo the positive themes and messaging of the originals; they're written by bitter children of the upper class who all fit the description of Woody Allen as given by Orson Welles; they hate themselves, but they love themselves. They view their own upbringing as the most tragic backstory ever conceived, while also viewing themselves as more enlightened than the masses.

They're broken people convinced that any positive message that didn't resonate with them or conform to their own experience is a lie. Families don't stick together, because their family didn't. There are no happy endings, because they're not happy. True love is an antiquated concept and the only thing that matters is ambition, because they've never known love, and the only thing they have to fulfil themselves is the validation of others through titles and work.

They're freaks using their ill-gotten positions of influence to desperately try and convince you, and by way of you, themselves, that YOU'RE the freaks, and THEIR experience is the normal one.

And it has to be that way, because otherwise they're alone, and caught the ass end of life's unfairness despite all their privileges and advantages, and that can never be allowed to be true.
