Gary Neville has just sounded the alarm at Old Trafford: the fans are turning on this Manchester United side at a frightening speed, and the boos are already ringing out.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, he says he doesn’t believe they’re directed at Michael Carrick himself, but at the players and the ownership. What United supporters refuse to tolerate is a basic lack of energy and effort:

“I don’t think the boos are against Michael Carrick for one minute but what I would say is that they’re turning quite quickly. Manchester United fans are incredibly loyal. Beyond loyal to their managers and to their players. But what they won’t accept is a lack of energy. They won’t accept a lack of effort.”

“The reality of it is, they’re not running enough. They’re not showing enough tenacity, determination, fighting spirit. They’re just not.”

Even Neville’s 16-year-old daughter texted him at half-time asking “what’s that?” His reply said it all: “You can’t kid and con a football fan, no matter who they are.”

This is becoming a pattern of embarrassment. The players let managers down time and again. They let the fans down time and again. No running. No fight. No determination.

These are the absolute basics, and they should be ashamed to have them levelled at them so repeatedly.

The owners aren’t off the hook either, far from it. They need to go. They’ve wrecked this club. But that is no excuse for the players failing to do the simplest things required of a Manchester United side, no matter who is in charge.

🚨BREAKING: Man attacked by tiger at Yorkshire Wildlife Park after entering enclosure.

• Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster has confirmed a “serious incident” at its tiger enclosure on Saturday afternoon.

• Yorkshire Ambulance Service was called at 1.33pm, dispatching two ambulances, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and a doctor.

• The park has activated its emergency procedures and is working with authorities to establish what happened. Witness says that "shots were fired."

• The wildlife park has closed and will remain shut tomorrow.

🔥 WATCH THIS: Paul Merson RAGING at Manchester City over their industrial-scale cheating, and the moments they’ve denied other teams, players and fans.

Merse is saying what a lot of fans have been feeling since the guilty verdicts. The cheating didn’t just help City. It won them the Premier League. He says there’s “absolutely no chance” they would have done it without it.

Without the ability to ignore PSR the way everyone else had to, they would have been miles off the top teams. They simply wouldn’t have been able to compete with the legitimate revenue streams the others were generating.

The players didn’t win those leagues, “them upstairs” did, by buying all the best players and building a squad no one else was allowed to match.

When Clinton Morrison tried to defend them (“they still have to go out and play, Merse”), Merson nearly exploded:

“OH COME ON! They had all the best players! They had two best players in every position and they dominated!”

Then he went further. Medals and trophies are almost irrelevant next to what actually matters. Life is about moments, and City’s ownership have taken those moments away from other people.

He pointed to Manchester United at Sunderland in 2012 — the day Aguero scored in the last seconds against QPR to clinch City’s first title, while United were left standing on the pitch at the Stadium of Light. That was at the height of the cheating.

“Life is all about moments and you’ve taken it away from other people. Them upstairs at Man City have nicked other people’s moments in life.”
