For me, I see it more as a man that didn’t want to be hated and villainized. didn’t want the social backlash. didn’t want to “stand up” in the public eye. didn’t want to be a distraction in this way.

What I don’t like is that we condemn people to the point that we no longer value them / show respect based on their opinions/actions (within their rights).
