4.9 out of 5 across 1,023 reviews on the Shopify App Store.
I looked at that properly this week, and the interesting part isn't the average. It's that almost none of the reviews are about features.
One from a couple of weeks ago: a merchant found a bug, told support, and the fix shipped immediately. They went out of their way to name the engineer who did it.
That's the thing I'd underestimated before I joined. @aftersell is a lean team, and the instinct with a lean team is to worry about coverage. What actually happens is the opposite. Every brand gets a named contact, a shared Slack channel, and product people who turn up on calls.
I sat on a migration call recently where the head of product rebuilt a broken funnel live in the merchant's admin, mid-conversation. Not a ticket. Not a follow-up. Just fixed it while we were talking.
And my favourite moment of the last few months was one of our merchant success managers telling a merchant that a part of our own product was confusing – because it was.
Then filled it and came back with the fix.
Software gets bought on features.
Nobody stays for them.

finally I’ve found someone talking about biking in downtown in Toronto
first of all they need more electric bikes for the city. I was in Quebec City over the summer and they had brand new electric bikes — so dope
secondly, people need to know the etiquettes of biking downtown 😂
thirdly, I guess we just get more bike lanes but the city wants against that 😑
“Shopify + Aftersell? Not even close.”
I took that personally 😂

if you can’t sell the dream there’s no way you’ll convince anyone that the tech will help them drive business outcomes.
although on the flip side, if you aren’t technical and are selling to technical people.
they’ll walk all over you if you don’t have the technical chops down.
balancing act really
but being good at sales is always most important
i feel like anyone who says their building a business to help customers is lying.
that’s the marketing version of it.
people start their own business to be their own boss firstly, secondly it’s to create something new and or unique, but the main reason is so that they have a chance to become rich and either exit or scale up to a level where they don’t have to worry about money.
@coryalthoff yep
without competitors you don’t have a market for your business.
having competitors means there’s an actual market to go after.
there’s not many markets that are a full monopoly most have plenty of healthy competitors
depends really.
building gives us a sense of fulfillment and something to work towards.
being a billionaire and not working sounds great in theory, but would be pretty boring after a few months.
there’s only so many fake friends you can buy to spend your money and time with having fun you know?
it seems part of the winning playbook, but I’d say it’s moreso niching down into your ideal category hard.
im passionate about personal finance, running and AI, but im building a niche audience around ecomm, post purchase and subscriptions because I have a strong domain expertise in it.
if I started posting about the half marathon I ran last weekend, or the major financial milestone I made it pass - my audience wouldn’t care so I don’t post about it.
for someone starting out, aside from posting. what are the 3-5 things you’d recommend doing?
