GoPro $GPRO is now an AI stock. It’s planning to merge with a photonics company "Starman Optical," which makes high-speed optical transceivers for AI data centers.
The stock skyrocketed 165% in 2 days. But it's still down 95% all time.
From the very beginning, I never understood the GoPro hype!
I've called it a "clunky camera with fad written all over it."
Its red flag was that it was a feature, not a business.
GoPro created a whole new category with its tough, mountable cameras that captured incredible action shots.
But as smartphone cameras became astonishingly good and more durable, the need for a dedicated action camera shrank.
The “feature” of a great portable camera was absorbed by the ultimate platform: the smartphone in your pocket. Drone companies like DJI also started building incredible cameras directly into their products.
The result was GoPro’s stock collapsing 95% from its highs.

Yesterday: GoPro announces they are going to merge with Starman Optical. "Starman Optical designs and builds devices that turn computer data into light signals, sending information at fast speeds through fiber-optic cables. Demand for such devices has grown in the multibillion-dollar AI infrastructure buildout." Per Reuters
The all cash deal will acquire GoPro at a 30% premium and pay off all debt which will leave the company debt free and still retaining 10% ownership
