@BarnHockey hallander is a bottom 6er at best. boohoo
Oilers acquire F Filip Hallander from Penguins for D Spencer Stastney

The trade makes sense on the surface … the Oilers needed forward depth, the Penguins were still a little thin on the left side of the D.
Hallander deserves a consistent opportunity. But he’s a tough player to move on from after how he’d looked so far.

@luvsngho o hallander nos pens

#LetsGoPens acquire D Spencer Stastney in exchange the #LetsGoOilers acquire Filip Hallander
Interesting deal here. I was never on the Hallander train like a lot of others so I don’t mind getting some extra defensive depth.
You can find another Hallander that’s what I’ll say.
The Penguins have whittled their surplus of NHL-capable forwards by trading Filip Hallander to Edmonton for defenseman Spencer Stastney. (Story is free and available to all.)

I was impressed with Hallander in the opener in Philly. Mildly surprised the Penguins traded him, even considering their forward glut.
@joefrk I know very little about him other than his name so I’m assuming he is the D-man version of someone like Hallander. Limited NHL experience with NSH/EDM.
Of course this happens, too, when I mention Pens getting more out of their depth players again, including Filip Hallander.
TRADE 🔄 The #Oilers have acquired forward Filip Hallander from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenceman Spencer Stastney.

We have about 10 guys all fighting for that spot up front. Best of luck to Hallander but we will survive losing him and we desperately need to improve our blue line.
If this trade is making you emotional you better start to prepare yourself because I guarantee there’s gonna be some bigger names leaving this team soon.

“We desperately need to improve our blue line” correct. And Hallander has more value and upside than Statsney. Statsney is… not good. Not even showing signs of being good. -10 and no production in 36GP most recently, and has gotten zero ice time this year. On a team with an already struggling defense. The Pens have a lot of extra NHL caliber forwards. I wouldn’t say EDM has extra defensemen.
This reads like a consolation for dogwalking EDM for Stu last year. If Statsney becomes a good player, I’ll be happy for him. I don’t doubt Dubas often. But we should’ve have given Hallanader for Statsney, of all people.
Spencer Stastney, traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, is a fast-skating, bottom-pairing defensive defenseman who can move the puck at lower levels. Not enough NHL sample size from Hallander to say too much about him. #LetsGoPens

TRADE!

I don't know much about Filip Hallander but the trades made Penguins fans angry so let's take it.
Big, young player with hands and can be physical
Are you fucking kidding me getting rid of Hallander! wtf!
@Fansville412 @penguins So 26 year old Hallander is a young kid but 24 year old Lapierre is an old bastard?
Hallander is cut from the same cloth as Joseph. Responsible 4th liner with a high motor, can PK and relentless forecheck. He will be a quality upgrade over Jones.
He missed most of last season with a blood clot.
Good move clearing up cap space for someone that has fallen out of the line up. I am a big Stastney fan but the Oilers didn't have any LHD spots open.
@bayouhockey @penguins I don’t love it to be honest — I really like hallander and was hoping to finally see him thrive after what he’s been through. Especially don’t love that it was for a defenseman from one of the worst defensive teams in hockey who himself has not had great defensive statistics.
