@FiveWoke @Gray_Mackenzie I said successive governments.
Stephen Harper’s government played a role in the sale of Stelco to U.S. Steel, by legally approving the foreign takeover in 2007.
@Thoth1985 @Jenniferl554563 You're really talking about Carney, we get it...he's making HUGE PROFITS daily from Brookfields growth taking advantage of the USA Market.
Stelco?
Who really uses that much steel these days anyway?
Here's some food Stamps for all you newly unemployed along with a MAID brochure
Ontario’s economy is doing just fine underneath the hood.
Meanwhile, workers online are reporting up to 500 layoffs at Stelco, with an affected worker saying Nanticoke will be heavily impacted.
Another day. Another layoff story.
At some point, the “underlying economy is strong” line has to meet the reality people are actually living.

So stelco steel closes down and Trump announces the building of a new steel mega plant in iowa on the same day. These decisions clearly didn't happen in isolation.
Stelco Steel in Hamilton closing indefinitely. Meanwhile in the USA same day!! Elbows up are really starting to cause Canada serious Econonic concussions!!

IT'S OFFICIAL: President Trump announces the largest steel plant in American HISTORY, which will be built in IOWA
This is HUGE for American manufacturing, especially going up against China.
It's a $15 BILLION project by Minnesota-based Mesabi Metallics, creating 6,000 construction jobs and 1,750 permanent jobs.
Not to mention it'll produce 10 MILLION tons of steel per year starting in 2030.
Stelco Steel out of Hamilton just announced they are shutting down indefinitely on October 9th due to tariffs.
500 workers will be out of work across their two locations in Ontario.
They also noted that Canadian sales of their steel is down 10%.
The longer Carney delays any trade negotiations with the U.S. the more Canadians will continue to lose their livelihoods and jobs.
@KootenayGreg @75opinionated Harper and his gang thought it would be cool to sell Stelco to an American. Canadian jobs will pay the price. Trading with the U.S. exclusively and letting Americans buy businesses that employ a lot of Canadians is a bad idea. Can we please learn from this?
@MoralityPLS P.S. Stelco has been U.S. owned since 2007 for the following reason: It was going bankrupt. The Conservative gov't under Harper ...

🇺🇸🇨🇦 Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney posted a train video on the day Stelco said it will idle Hamilton Works.
He wants credit for VIA cars “made in Canada, with Canadian materials, by Canadian workers.”
Those cars were announced three weeks ago. They cost $4.7 billion. The first one is due in 2031. The last ones in 2035. The builder is Alstom, a French firm using Canadian plants. Ottawa says 700 jobs.
Hamilton got a different number today: up to 500 workers, cold-rolled and coated lines winding down Oct. 9, because the U.S. steel market is walled off and cheap imports are still landing here.
That is not nation-building. That is a press release standing in for a trade deal.
You do not replace the customer that buys most of what Canada sells by ordering passenger cars for 2031. You do not brag about Canadian steel on the day the finishing mill in Hamilton goes idle.
Get the deal done. Hamilton cannot ride a VIA press release to 2035.
Rail is more than a means of transportation in Canada. It’s part of our story.
For the first time in four decades, VIA Rail passenger cars that were once made in the United States, will be built in Canada, with Canadian materials, and by Canadian workers.
@PierrePoilievre This will age like milk in the sun because wow.... talk about taking the facts about Stelco (specifically), which was bungled by your predecessor's government.
Stelco layoffs put hundreds of Hamilton steel jobs at risk https://t.co/Li5g3BFLuL
@PaulTho53670033 @BertaProudDad Why did the liberals walk away from the trade negotiations? (Carnage refuses to say!) And why aren’t they back at the table, doing their gd jobs?! Bc none of their friends or family work at stelco or any other 🇨🇦 company currently circling the drain. Carney is beyond USELESS!
@AndrewLawton Okay so who sold Stelco to the US anyway? Oh that’s right Harper and the conservatives! Sounds like typical Conservative politics .. defect and deny! Now as you ere saying skippy???
@MaritStiles Isn’t Stelco an American owned Company? Are they laying off in the US or is this political jockeying? Maybe our Govt could buy it back or nationalize it. We have so many resources here that our govt should be making money for the people like Norway.
TDS is crushing Canadians ability to use reason and common sense. Today it cost us Stelco, tomorrow maybe your employer will go down.
Make Carney do his job and get to the table as President Trump again reiterated that there is a great trade deal waiting for Canada in spite of how shamefully Canadians have behaved
Here's how to spread misinformation.
Mario says "Stelco Steel is in survival mode"
But, that's absolutely not true.
They are temporarily pausing one aspect of the operation.
Overall output will remain the same, just with a different product mix.
The impacted workers are being offered employment at the other plant.

@ThisIsCoffey Harper didn't sell stelco dumbass.
