🇺🇸🇨🇦 President Trump, speaking with Mark Carney, recalled a past conversation in which he asked Justin Trudeau what a 25% tariff on Canadian cars would mean.
According to Trump, Trudeau replied that it “would mean the end of Canada.”
Even a 15% tariff would likely stop any automaker from committing to new plant investments at the next retooling cycle. Canada has very little room left before these duties effectively wipe out its auto sector.
As Trump put it: “We want to make our own cars. We don’t really want cars from Canada, and we put tariffs on cars from Canada… and we don’t want steel from Canada because we’re making our own steel.”
CANADA’S AUTO SECTOR MAY BE WARNING OTTAWA: 15% ISN’T A DEAL. IT’S A DEATH SENTENCE.
Industry insiders are reportedly telling the Carney government that if Canada accepts a 15% U.S. auto tariff, some plants could close once their current model runs end.
That is the part politicians keep missing.
A tariff does not have to shut a plant tomorrow.
It only has to make the next investment decision go somewhere else.
Once the next model, platform or production mandate is awarded to Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee or Mexico ..
the Canadian plant can simply age out.
So the real negotiation is not:
“Can Canada survive a 15% tariff?”
It is:
“Will anyone choose Canada for the next generation of auto production under a permanent 15% disadvantage?”
That is a much scarier question. 🇨🇦
If Carney did that, Quebec would vote for independence. The only reason Quebecers remain in Canada is so they can continue extracting Stabilization payments and maintain the dairy and auto sweetheart arrangements with Ontario.
The moment those deals disappear, they are gone. Quebec’s loyalty to Canada has always been transactional, it lasts only as long as the benefits do. I think even they could begrudgingly admit that too.
🚨 HOLY SMOKES. Sen. Lisa Murkowski's team is absolutely livid and now threatening to file a legal complaint to the Alaska Division of Elections and Law Department, simply because James O'Keefe's team EXPOSED election vulnerabilities
They were gonna let O'Keefe vote as Murkowski's BROTHER, and one of his team members vote as Murkowski's State Director 🤯
The workers confirmed it: You don't need ID, just promise us you are who you say you are...
NEITHER of them actually went through with voting or signing forms.
Worth noting that Murkowski, who is now worried about "voter fraud," IS BLOCKING THE SAVE AMERICA ACT
MURKOWSKI STATE DIRECTOR: "I will happily include it in my complaint to the Division of Elections and the Department of Law." 🤡
You are doing America a service, @JamesOKeefeIII 👏🏻

It’s what I call the beginning of negotiations. Once the trade deal is done, this can rapidly change depending on how they feel about Carney.
The real tell will be the results of the bi-elections on August 31st. If the PC wins an electoral mandate, things can change quickly in this environment. Especially if protests break out.

The Latvian Ministry of Defense announced that the recently downed drone that entered Latvian airspace was Ukrainian.
"We have determined that the drone shot down by NATO fighters on August 14 near Rugai, Balvi District, was a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle. It entered Latvian airspace from Belarus, most likely under the influence of Russian electronic warfare systems.
To avoid affecting the planned defense activities and capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, we will not provide further details about the drone model.
We continue to monitor Latvian airspace and, together with our NATO allies, are ready to immediately respond to any potential threats."
