Homes were burned, people seriously wounded and families driven out. In eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the ISIS-linked Allied Democratic Forces have repeatedly attacked Christian communities. Churches have closed and survivors have fled. Across Nigeria, Christian communities also endure killings, abductions and displacement. These victims deserve international attention, protection and accountability. Religious persecution must be named where the evidence establishes it. Ethnic tensions, criminal violence and disputes over land can also overlap with religious identity. Recognising those distinctions strengthens the case for justice. Hamas’s massacre on 7 October and its conduct during the ensuing war deserve scrutiny. So does the suffering of Palestinian civilians. Neither excuses indifference towards murdered African Christians. The challenge to politicians, universities, campaigners and newsrooms is straightforward: sustain your attention beyond the conflicts that already dominate the headlines. Report these atrocities. Name the perpetrators where responsibility is established. Demand protection for threatened communities. Human rights cannot depend on a victim’s religion, geography or usefulness to a political cause.
