Russia is literally next door to Alaska. Its trains can transport potash from anywhere in Russia to its eastern ports, including eastern origins.

It's cheap to ship. Only $30 per ton to China. Prices to the US are $400 to $500. That cost is easy for Belarus to accommodate within better pricing than Canada.
The point isn't to move all of Canada's share to Belarus.
The point is to pressure Canada to maintain reasonable prices, with a modest drop, in order to hold 90% of US share, rather than fall to 60-70% share due to holding prices high.
Belarus has lots of unused capacity it can ramp up relatively soon. Its production is artificially low because sanctions have hurt its demand.
@YoungStreete You forgot the most important point. Belarus does not have any potash to sell to anyone right now. They are a small producer and it is spoken for into next year. Another Trump scraping the barrel with no facts. Just like all the billions of barrels of oil in Venezuela.

This is the strategic question Washington should answer.
Canada already provides the United States with roughly 80% of its imported potash through an integrated continental supply chain. Belarus is landlocked, closely aligned with Russia, and Lukashenko now says its available production is already contracted.
So before claiming this makes American farmers better off, show the full delivered cost, available volume and supply security.
Replacing a nearby ally with a distant supplier dependent on Russian logistics may punish Canada.
That does not automatically make America stronger.
@hrh_elliot Educate yourself before spewing such nonsense...Belarus does not currently have available volume to supply Western markets, as its potash export capacity is already fully committed to contracts shifted toward Eastern markets.
