It was a great class that gave me the opportunity to observe how the real writer is being made! His journey wasn’t an easy one, yet Martin never gave up!!!

The journey that George R. R. Martin went through to be such a great writer, gives inspiration to whoever has a dream! His dedication, consistency, and determination were the ember, which push him all the way to the top!!!!

“But for that strength—for the might and the steel of our swords and the fire in our hearts (...) [I thank whoever] gave [me] life and taught [me] how to keep it!!! “Self-determination.”

“Ours by the only right that is: the right of the strong.” One has to be strong to claim his/her right; according to this statement, Martin says that is there is only “right of the strong,” but not the weak!!!

“For our food, we thank ourselves, none other. It is ours because we worked for it, ours because we fought for it” (Nightflyers). This is when someone earns his living by their own hard work!!

Again, Martin hits the sensitive nerve of “loneliness” when Roy’s says, “My loneliness led me to a grievous error.” Yes, being lonely might lead some to make errors, indeed!!
ENG#528
In A Song for Lya, Martin touches another kind of “loneliness” even different than “The Second Kind of Loneliness.” Lyanna feels lonely even with Robb, whom she is in love with not just by a touch and a voice. It is not enough to be a Talent; it needs more! #ENG528
In The Exit to San Breta, The unfinished business haunted “a rusty white ghost car, driving on haunted highway you won’t find on any road maps (...) searching forever for the exit” (101) of San Berta, of course!!
#ENG528
In The Second Kind of Loneliness, Martin gives magnificent description of how awful being lonely among people; it is even hurting more than living in a far and lonely planet!!
#ENG528
“How fear fled, and thought fled, and even your body.” It is really like fever when one experiences all those aspects; it’s a battle fever, indeed!
#ENG528
I like the phrase of “Battle Fever.” “How time seemed to blur and slow and even stop, how the past and the future vanished until there was nothing but the instant [present]” (855).
