Trying to get through to the @ChartWorldECDIS 24h emergency support number, but no answer? Does anyone know if there is a specific issue with this service at the moment?
500 years ago today the navigator Juan Sebastián Elcano returned after the first circumnavigation. He left with Magellan in 1519 in 5 boats and with 235 crew. Only 1 boat and 21 crew returned (many mutinied). Yesterday the sailors in the @ggr2022 departed on a similar adventure!
Traditional navigation is much like life, instead of knowing exactly where you are all of the time, all you can really hope to achieve is a good understanding of where you are not.

"much of the maritime industry is compliance based" this is sadly true, when the sea is obviously an environment where a better ethos is required.
@MrsT106 And a tax payer funded organisation- NASA - put a man on the moon decades ago. Not sure what your point is here, apart from perhaps that Capitalism is really slow!
https://t.co/zzS5TEdZ9j As it's warming up it is tempting to go out without lifejackets while sailing. This recent testing by the @maibgovuk brings it home that if you're wearing oilskins, or any heavy clothing, you should definitely always be wearing a lifejacket.
We did end up very close to the separation zone on this trip. I had to call up the French CG and explain that we were under sail and it would be awkward to avoid cutting the corner. They were very understanding.
The just published @maibgovuk Safety Digest: https://t.co/W80135z3GO explains how this First 40 ended up like this back in Nov 2019, see p.53. Spade rudders need to be built strong!
What is it like to be a #woman in a man's sea?
Did you know that 71% of women aged 26-30 have experienced gender-based discrimination in #sailing?
Find out how one #powerfulwoman has overcome the struggles of being a lady in the sailing industry here⬇️

Maersk’s rainbow containers' world tour begins, our commitment to #inclusion and #diversity all year round. Starting aboard the #Maersk Edmonton from @APMTerminals Pier 400 in LA. The tour finishes in Denmark for Copenhagen Pride 2021 https://t.co/Th0utlKDDg
#inclusionalltheway
We'd of course prefer it if they went back to sail power, but @Maersk have taken an impressive leap with this decision. They are showing exactly the kind of leadership that any industry that still relies on fossil fuels need to take. https://t.co/M8DorEgxcn
Nice little article about the refit of our Baba 35, Black Sheep. In Classic Boat Magazine no less! Did I really say we'd be launched in 2021? I'd better get my skates on.
