Hello Internet! I need your help.
I'm Ghada - a Saudi visual anthropologist based in Berlin. Iโm trying to track down old photographs taken across the Arabian Peninsula (GCC, Yemen, Iraq, Jordan).
Not official images, but those day-to-day ones; street scenes, people, homes, daily life. Photos taken by travelers, researchers, journalists, workers. Honestly, anyone who passed through with a camera! Iโd love to know who these photographers were, where they went, and where their images might be now.
This isnโt an institutional project. Itโs personal and community-driven, and I hope to eventually build a public archive that anyone can access. Our region has changed so much; and I think itโs time we look back and reflect on how we got here. More than anything, this is about memory.
If you know of anyone who photographed the Peninsula, in the 50s, 70s, 2000s (as far as we can go!) Iโd be so grateful if you shared any information.
Hereโs the link to a public Google Sheet where you can add anything you know:
