Liverpool FC can confirm Arne Slot is to depart his role as head coach with immediate effect and that the process to appoint a successor is under way.
He leaves with a Premier League title to his name and our deepest gratitude and appreciation.
Football data editor at Opta, @michael_reid11: "We obviously have data for all the Premier League era, so from 1992-93 onwards, but Salah's records were so ridiculous that we realised we had to go beyond that. The amount of times we were doing stats and you'd try to put other players up on a leaderboard but Salah would be just there ahead of them. It would be just impossible to get a table where Salah wasn't above this player because he was so multifaceted. What we tried to do was get maybe two or three Salah records or stats lined up before every game. He got to a point where every time he gets a goal or assist, there's some sort of record he's breaking."
United getting their first double over us since 2016.
Add that to City getting their first double over us since 1937, our joint heaviest ever league home defeat, our joint heaviest European home defeat and our worst run of form in 71 years.
Record breaking season. Thanks, Arne.
🎙️Thierry Henry on Arne Slot benching Mo Salah:
Liverpool used to depend on Mo Salah in games like this, but now he’s starting on the bench. A similar thing happened between Ronaldo and Ten Hag. I hope Slot knows what he’s doing. Disrespecting the club’s biggest legend in this way shouldn’t be allowed by the fans.
You have to understand, players like Salah are not just regular players—they are game-changers. They’ve earned the right, over the years, to be trusted in the biggest moments. When the pressure is high and the team needs inspiration, these are the players you turn to.
Of course, a manager has his tactics and decisions to make, and sometimes rotation is necessary. But when you leave out someone who has consistently delivered for the club, people will question it. That’s normal.
If it works, people will say it’s a genius decision. But if it doesn’t, all the focus will be on why your best player wasn’t on the pitch from the start. At a club like Liverpool, those decisions carry a lot of weight.
So for me, it’s not just about tactics—it’s about timing, respect, and understanding the importance of certain players in big games.
