16/16 most of all: degrowing the livestock sector (or any other sector) is not barely a “demand side measure”. #economics 101: quantity is determined by #demand AND #supply! or better said, by decisions affecting all levels of the #SupplyChain. Say "SUFFICENCY measures" instead!
1/n paper alert: a new perspective on #feed and #livestock and its pressure on ecosystems. https://t.co/Juvc9kEwgD A call to move from #consumption to supply chain accounting and narratives. Because reducing the quantity of #animal products is not barely a “#demand side measure”
Regional #food systems are essential to close nutrient cycles, build relationships between consumers and producers, etc. How regional is food in the #EU? It depends on whether or not you consider how #livestock has been fed. Great work by @BlizziLizz https://t.co/wsIUpqWvJx

1/n Some time ago I was analyzing how changes in the mix of origins of #agricultural#imports affected #ecosystems. I had noticed that agricultural products were increasingly imported from abroad and that the origin of imports had also been changing. https://t.co/RQlfw0WK3D
https://t.co/q3qwn2jmxE How much environmental problems are due to the mix of sectors, the mix of origin of imports or the mix of consumed products? These mix effects are often calculated using the #LMDI. Our article discusses a problem of this method, and an alternative IDA
We are in a #ClimateEmergency. Science is clear, but radical government action is still unseen. Should we keep on providing more data, doing as if the problem would be a lack of knowledge, or should we launch a #moratorium on #climate change research? read https://t.co/vvGhbhzZeE
Europe is importing #ecosystem degradation from other regions, which has to be governed to avoid leakage from domestic conservation and restoration policies. But we should not forget that huge ecosystem degradation happened centuries ago in Europe leaving room for #restoration.
The SIA of the EU-MERCOSUR agreement conclude that "#deforestation in Brazil [...] declined very sharply in the period 2004-2012, while #meat production continued to increase [so] it is possible to increase agricultural and meat production without increasing pressure on forests."
