2S is an organizing committee (IWW affiliate), a growing network of TAs and other Faison workers committed to the rights of Faison clients and workers.
#️⃣5️⃣ Every worker and every student has a right to feel supported in their workplace and in their education. This work is tough - particularly with the world looking as dark as it is now. @faisoncenter we deserve more.
Solidarity with the @secondstaff2s workers at Richmond, VA's Faison School who are organizing for safer working conditions for themselves & the students & families they serve. No education worker, no student, & no family member should fear exposure to #COVID19. @dmvewoc@iww_dc
#️⃣4️⃣ We are asking for a widely available, accessible, and documented call-in line for COVID-19 SPECIFIC CONCERNS. Every worker, family, and member of the @faisoncenter community deserves a voice that is HEARD. 🗣💥
#️⃣2️⃣ It's Tuesday! What better day to remind @faisoncenter of our second demand? Second Staff calls on the Faison administration and board to prioritize the safety, wellbeing, and livelihood of EVERY worker. 🚨💥
Second Staff is built on the principle that ALL workers deserve to be heard and treated with respect and dignity. No form of prejudice or bigotry will be tolerated - ever.
At Faison, we make a walkie call for “second staff” when we need help. Every Faison worker has made a second staff call when they needed assistance, and we have all come running to help after hearing a second staff call go out.
We named our organization after this system of mutual support — Faison employees have the power to help each other improve conditions at the Faison Center for staff and clients.
@secondstaff2s has just released their finalized demands publicly. The bosses at the Faison school will do all they can to resist these reasonable demands - please share them to show the workers they are supported! ✊
When employee retention takes precedence, our clients are supported with long-term investment, informed educators and assistants, and the safety that comes with relationship building.
Having appropriate teacher/student ratios is important. Deciding to have EVERY staff in the program report, only to be sent home after, is NOT a good solution.
Every worker deserves the right to make informed choices for their health and their situation. Safety concerns are not attacks - they are necessary community discussions. We can do better.
This school did a great job preparing teachers, students and parents for the upcoming school year! It's possible to provide alternatives to unsafe reopenings while also making sure everybody is properly accommodated. Who knew??!
My friend teaches at a school that decided in early August to go 100% remote. Teachers have been planning since last week; parents have received support & communications re what to expect; kids have been sent backpacks loaded with high-quality materials & start school next week.
