@alvinsng wtf

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

I never understood how much easier it is to tolerate being hurt than to inflict hurt upon someone you love. Holy shit I would take the first option one million times over

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

Life fucking sucks sometimes, but then you learn some actual bad news and realize you have it pretty good.

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

@ChrSzegedy Surely Terry Tao deserves some slack from the internet mob? Or do people really like being able to poke at great men out of some insecurity?

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

@ChrSzegedy This has been getting traffic since it's relevant today

I think people making fun of Tao are lame. Criticism is fair game, as always..

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

@DanielLockyer Because ORMs are fucking horrible and they are the only thing taught in school because its "CLEAN"

Also this way of programming that spawned from OOP where you code like "get this one thing I need here and then this one thing I need here" vs doing stuff in batches

Dario has written that we need to “pace the frontier,” and Sam has agreed. People may be surprised by my response: go ahead.

You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement.

I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible.

But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier.

Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want.

Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well.

So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it.

If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop.

@gizmobly Good article!

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

you are obviously incredibly good so you should learn the programmer hedge. Take the best case time - few days as you just did. Add another factor of 2 or 3 there

Aim to deliver faster than the best case time, realistically hit between the best case time - few days, and that times 2

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

@rfleury @eeuoss 😆

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

@KongMajorKong @DrChrisCombs Absolutely!

how the fuck did this survive, insanely impressive

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

@teej_dv @cmuratori @ThePrimeagen @trashh_dev Standup shoutout? Or is it puns only?

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

@cmuratori @ThePrimeagen @teej_dv @trashh_dev (Obvious setup for a dunk on me on twitter joke)

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

@cmuratori @ThePrimeagen @teej_dv @trashh_dev I don't think Teej can dunk

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

@GiovanniCarli18 O wait its out now

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

@GiovanniCarli18 This looks great, did you write the integrated parsers yourself? How annoying was it to parse c++

When is the release?

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

@valigo Bro I ran in to these same thoughts and started reading a linear algebra textbook on my vacation because my ego was too hurt by my stupidity 😭

[RebbecaHarrisFan123 @SecretsAreCool2]

@skdh The things you post are incredibly cool. Thanks for improving my daily experience

I think one should just not take her too seriously at times like this.. I enjoy my girlfriend being all of happy/cute/mad/sad/playful within 15 minutes.. It feels very feminine and brings a spark of joy to my life

I think it's just important not to take her too seriously except for serious times. It’s kind like a fun game where she tries to destabilize you and you poke fun at her until she's even more in love
