8 मई 1988 हरियाणा के पानीपत में एक हिंदू परिवार में शादी के जश्न का माहौल था। हर तरफ खुशियां थीं, मेहमान हंस-बोल रहे थे।

इसी बीच 3 खालिस्तानी आतंकवादी मोटरसाइकिलों पर सवार होकर आए और उन्होंने जश्न मना रहे निहत्थे लोगों पर सबमशीन गन (Submachine guns) से अंधाधुंध फायरिंग शुरू कर दी।

इस कायरतापूर्ण और क्रूर हमले में 13 निर्दोष हिंदुओं की मौके पर ही मौत हो गई, जिनमें चार महिलाएं और दो मासूम बच्चे भी शामिल थे।

आतंकवादियों की इस अंधाधुंध गोलीबारी में 31 से अधिक अन्य लोग गंभीर रूप से घायल हुए थे।

यह हमला सिर्फ एक अपराध नहीं, बल्कि मानवता पर एक गहरा घाव था, जो यह याद दिलाता है कि उस दौर में खालिस्तानी चरमपंथ ने देश में किस कदर तबाही मचाई थी।

इतिहास के पन्नों में दर्ज यह घटना खालिस्तानी आतंकवादियों की अमानवीयता और कायरता का एक ऐसा खौफनाक उदाहरण है, जिसे कभी भुलाया नहीं जा सकता।
