Over 150 Terrorists Surrender to Operation HADIN KAI Troops

More than 150 terrorists, including 50 top commanders and their affiliates, have surrendered to the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, following weeks of sustained military pressure across the region.

In an official statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, the Theatre Command attributed the surge in voluntary surrenders to a combination of intelligence-led kinetic operations and non-kinetic strategies—including strategic communications and civil-military engagements.

Intensified pressure has severely restricted the terrorists' freedom of movement, crippled their logistics and sustainment networks, and triggered widespread internal attrition within their enclaves.

A significant stockpile of arms and ammunition was turned in by the surrendering fighters, further degrading the insurgents' combat capabilities.

Targeted messaging campaigns continue to disrupt hostile narratives, successfully persuading fighters to abandon terrorism while outlining clear pathways for disengagement.

Security personnel attached to the Joint Security team in the 2 Division operational zone successfully freed 28-year-old Hussaini Shehu and seized an AK-47 assault rifle during an encounter with armed bandits in Kogi State. The pre-dawn interception occurred around 3:00 AM on August 24, 2026, when a patrol unit from the Obajana base encountered the victim. Initial questioning indicated that Shehu had been snatched approximately five days prior from the Abaji district within the Federal Capital Territory before being moved across state lines.

Acting swiftly on actionable intelligence provided by the survivor, the forces navigated to the hidden encampment where he was previously detained. Upon arrival, soldiers exchanged heavy gunfire with the syndicate, ultimately overpowering the group and causing the abductors to scramble into the surrounding wilderness. In their haste to escape, the criminals left behind an AK-47 firearm, which was secured alongside the victim, who was immediately transferred to a military medical facility for care. Active sweeps of the FCT-Kogi axis remain ongoing to hunt down the lingering suspects and dismantle regional kidnapping networks.

NSA Nuhu Ribadu Heads Delegation for Second U.S.-Nigeria Security Review as Bilateral Bilateral Group Tracks Progress

Following a November 2025 mission to Washington amid heightened U.S. scrutiny over religious freedom and violence Nigeria’s NSA Mallam Nuhu Ribadu engaged top American officials across Congress, the State Department, and the Pentagon.

Pushing back against claims of religious targeted genocide, Ribadu highlighted that violent extremism impacts all Nigerians regardless of faith. The talks led to a strengthened defense partnership and the creation of a Joint Working Group.

Security forces in Katsina State stopped a mass kidnapping attempt in Gidan Bawa village, killing 24 bandits and rescuing abducted residents.

Acting on intelligence, a joint team of the Nigerian Army, DSS, Katsina Community Watch Corps, and local vigilantes ambushed around 40 gunmen linked to bandit leader Isiya Kwashen Garwa. The attackers aimed to kidnap women and children to embarrass the government, similar to a previous raid in Kwara State.

Security forces also recovered 19 stolen cattle and are currently hunting down the remaining fleeing bandits.

Troops foil abduction bid in Zamfara, rescue nine including a baby
On 16 August 2026, troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA stopped terrorists from kidnapping people in Unguwar Rogo Village, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Zamfara State. They rescued nine civilians, including an infant.
Terrorists, thought to be led by Mallam Shuaibu, attacked travellers after the earlier arrest of their helpers who were buying motorcycles and fuel. The attackers hid in a millet farm and opened fire, forcing some vehicles off the road.
Troops from Sector 2 quickly arrived, fought back, and made the terrorists run into the forest. Two wounded women were taken for medical care.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA will keep pressing terrorists and protect people across the North West.

Troops of the 82 Division/Joint Task Force South East (Operation UDO KA), working with the DSS, have arrested a major kidnapping gang leader in Enugu State. They also recovered four AK-47 rifles, seven magazines and 133 rounds of ammunition.

The operation followed intelligence work after the abduction of two people in Udi on 2 August 2026. Troops had earlier killed one gang member and arrested another. Information from that arrest helped them track the commander to the Gariki area as he tried to escape.

The suspect is linked to several kidnappings in the South East and North Central. Cash (US$1,000 and ₦785,900) and other items were found on him.

Further leads took troops to a forest hideout in Umuchingu Ujenike, where the weapons were recovered.

The Army says the operation shows the value of intelligence-led joint efforts in breaking up criminal gangs and seizing their weapons. The commander is still being questioned to help find the rest of the network.

Troops in Plateau State rescued a kidnapped man, Mr. Boyi Sauka, following an attack in the Mista Ali area of Bassa Local Government Area on August 9.

Around midnight, soldiers from Operation ENDURING PEACE responded to a distress call after armed men abducted Mr. Sauka and his son, Mantum Sauka.
Troops immediately launched a search, successfully locating and rescuing the elder Sauka, who suffered injuries during the attack. He is currently receiving medical treatment at AG Hospital, Mista Ali.

Mantum Sauka is still held by the kidnappers. Security forces have intensified operations in the area to track down the criminals and rescue the remaining captive.

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 33 passengers abducted by terrorists in the Magazu area of Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara State. The rescue followed credible information received on August 8, 2026, that terrorists had intercepted commuters travelling through the area.

The Nigerian military dealt a heavy blow to ISWAP terrorists in the Sambisa Forest after airstrikes on Saturday, August 8, killed nine fighters and injured several others.

Among the dead is a major commander named Qaid Abu Khalid Al Muhajir. He was a key figure who specialized in guiding top terrorist leaders safely through secret routes and protecting their convoys from security forces.

Because he knew the terrain so well, losing him will make it much harder for top ISWAP commanders to move around unnoticed. Intelligence sources say these strikes also hit fighters linked to past attacks on Nigerian troops in Gwoza, and the military plans to keep up the pressure to completely break the group's network.

1. It raises serious questions that someone allegedly in direct communication with bandits was allowed to roam freely and grant media interviews instead of being straightaway flagged by security architecture.

2. Rushing to TV stations to discuss sensitive matters of national security under the guise of activism rather than cooperating with the DSS or the NSA's office points directly to an ulterior motive. Individuals playing to the gallery with unverified claims while hobnobbing with criminal elements are part of the very bottlenecks frustrating the collective fight against terrorism in the country to be very honest.

DSS should never release this individual.

Yesterday afternoon, troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, acting on solid intelligence, arrested four suspected Lakurawa terrorists at Darusa village market in Sokoto State.

The suspects were at the market trying to sell rustled cattle. Troops recovered six cows, two mobile phones, and ₦165,000.

Another timely, intelligence-led success. Taking these elements off the streets and recovering stolen livestock is exactly the kind of sustained pressure that makes communities safer.
