The only reason AI is still around right now is bc it keeps being funded by VCs and government contracts. It's not profitable at all and likely never will be. And the amount of raw data it needs to actually work is MUCH HIGHER than what is legally available for free
for my money, movie magic doesn’t get better than this: a frog guy the size of a 6 month old baby lifting a 10 ton spaceship out of a bog to teach this dipshit hillbilly a lesson as the music just erupts. the impossibility and beauty of this fictional world just ropes you in
@bajlm7 it's a useful reframing away from "no cost (except time and personal data)" to "time spent doing unpaid labour generating personal data". people often perceive social media as the product (with some trade-offs), rather our attention as the product (regardless of content quality)
ive read a lot of books and essays about the attention economy and digital labour. but truly nothing makes the humiliation stick better than this tiktok skit recognising social media use as "volunteering for Big Tech"
