He had to make a quote because "all men are created equal" is in direct opposition to the GOP foundation as evident by the hundreds of Nazis and white supremacists that showed up to support Trump and the GOP on the 4th

On the day after 250, it is cathartic to acknowledge the fact that this nation has a large number of persons who are firm believers in the Patriot Front philosophy. And while the percentage of those is less than half, the numbers are large, close to 100 million (about a third of the population)
Acknowledgement doesn't equate to approval or acceptance. What acknowledgement does is to set the conditions for change/elimination. Elimination of the Patriot Front philosophy.
The unfortunate fact is that the current occupants of the White House have given approval for public display of that philosophy. Which complicates the effort to tamp down on it. One of the methods to reduce the prevalence of that abhorrent belief system is to make it publicly unacceptable to express those thoughts.
That ain't gonna happen as long as the Racist in Chief, Drowsy Donnie, & his minions, hold power. And while the raw percentage of racists may not increase, the attitude may become firmly entrenched in our public behaviour.
And circling back to my paragraph on acknowledgement, this is why the Drowsy Donnie crew is fighting so hard to eliminate accurate historical representations. Because that facilitates their goal to create public acceptance of display of racial animus.
